Great GCSE results day for schools
GCSE students from across the borough are celebrating after collecting their results yesterday (24 August), with over 78.7 per cent receiving a grade 4 and above in English and Maths.
Nearly 2,000 students collected their results, with teachers on hand in schools to celebrate the Year 11s' achievements, offer guidance on next steps and support for any disappointments.
It was another fantastic set of results this year, with 78.7 per cent of students receiving a grade 9 to 4 in English and Maths. Broken down further, 83.6 percent received a grade 9 to 4 in English and 83.1 per cent received a grade 9 to 4 in Maths.
The number to achieve these grades for these subjects nationally were 64.2 per cent and 61 per cent respectively.
Following strong A Level results last week, it shows the ongoing strength of secondary schools across the area. Read more on GCSE results and see more photos of students celebrating on our news pages.
Get ready, get help - winter is coming
With results days now gone and back to school on the horizon, winter will soon be with us.
Compared to 2022, most people won’t have access to support with their energy bills.
Last year all households got £400 off their bills from the Government via their energy suppliers, but this year there’s not any support for everyone.
This is at a time when food costs are higher, with mortgages and rents also rising for most. Here’s what you can do if you need help and get ready for winter:
The Wokingham Festival will be bringing live music to the town this weekend (26 to 28 August).
More than 40 artists are appearing this year, including original artists, tribute artists and covers bands performing a wide range of musical genres. There's more to the festival than just the music though.
Children are welcome, with activities available to keep them amused, and of course there will be a range of food and drink stands in addition to the Beer Festival Bar, being run by the Twyford Beer Festival crew.
This year, as last, under-18s will need a ticket but these are free. Compared with other festivals with similar quality of artists, the ticket prices for Wokingham Festival remain excellent value.
Get your tickets on the gate - for £20 per day or £50 for all three days.

Updated proposals for district centre in Arborfield
Developer Crest Nicholson submitted a detailed planning application for a district centre off Nine Mile Ride Extension in Arborfield with shops, a community centre and other amenities in April.
After going through your comments and discussing the scheme with our planning officers, as well as seeking independent guidance from Design South East Review Panel, they've made a few revisions.
The changes include a play area on the proposed village green to the north of the site, improved landscaping to link the food store with other shop units and a "gateway" entrance to the pedestrianised shopping area.
Changes are also proposed to elevations and height of some buildings, particularly along Nine Mile Ride Extension, the central road and new shopping area.
Full details of the new district centre plans can be found in our latest Arborfield Community News update.
