It’s a bank holiday on Monday (29 May) but your bins get collected on the same day as usual.
Collections start earlier (5.30am) so help out the crews by putting your rubbish and recycling out the night before.
Can’t remember your collection day for normal or garden waste – use our collection day checking tool online.
Wheels in motion for new active travel route
Plans for a new active travel link between Wokingham town centre and neighbourhoods to the west have taken their first steps thanks to a Government grant.
We’ve been awarded more than £600,000 from the Department for Transport's Active Travel Fund, which will pay for initial design work on the scheme along the A329 Reading Road.
This 1.6 mile (2.5km) route, comprising a segregated one-way cycle lane with shared use paths and other improvements on each side of the road, would run from Sadler’s Lane at Winnersh, near the M4 underpass and petrol station, to the western end of Broad Street.
However, we haven’t allocated any money for building it and wouldn’t start work without seeking your views. The project would be split into four phases and we’d like to consult on at least the first by the end of this year.
The scheme was raised in our Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan, a borough-wide strategy we recently published with your feedback.
It would support our ongoing efforts to tackle the climate emergency and air pollution by cutting emissions, as well as helping you live more healthily.
Energy bills drop in July, but get £100 help now
Typical household energy bills will drop from July, with Ofgem announcing a new price cap for energy bills of £2,074.
For every £100 you pay now, you will likely to be paying £80 to £85 on energy from July. If you pay by direct debit your payments may take longer to adjust to this change and all prices are relative to household usage.
But all of us will be paying hundreds of more pounds annually compared to before the energy crisis began.
And if you are struggling to pay energy costs or for other essentials now, you can get money from the Household Support Fund.
You can get £100 to help with this or more help if you have a child who receives means-tested free school meals, with half-term just around the corner.
 Find your next volunteer role
Our community engagement team has worked with the Wokingham Volunteer Centre to organise a volunteer recruitment fair in Woodley on Tuesday 6 June.
This is running from 10am to 12 noon at Woodley Library (RG5 4JA).
It’s a chance to meet local charities and organisations looking for local volunteers, including the Link Visiting Scheme, ABC to Read, Citizens Advice Wokingham and Woodley, The Cowshed and Oxfam Woodley.

 Celebrate National Nature Reserves Week
The very first National Nature Reserves Week is taking place until 29 May.
At present, there are 225 National Nature Reserves (NNRs) in England. Most NNRs offer great opportunities for schools, specialist interest groups and the public to experience wildlife at first hand and to learn more about nature conservation.
You can enjoy a number of local nature reserves on your doorstep:
These natural green spaces have an abundance of wildlife and a mixture of heathlands, lakes, meadows as well as woodlands.
