A new political map for the borough
A new pattern of wards is being developed for the area. The Local Government Boundary Commission has decided that the number of councillors in Wokingham should be 54, the same as now.
It wants to hear what residents and organisations think about their local area. A 10-week consultation inviting proposals will run until 7 November 2022. The commission is the independent body that draws these boundaries.
It is reviewing the borough to make sure councillors represent about the same number of electors, and that ward arrangements help the council work effectively. It wants to be sure that its proposals reflect community ties and identities.
The commission is interested in views on which communities should be part of the same ward. There will be a further round of consultation once proposals have been drawn up.
Wokingham Library is moving
Wokingham Library is moving to its new home at the Carnival Hub. The old library building in Denmark Street will close permanently at 4pm tomorrow (Saturday 3 September) and the new library will open on Monday 19 September.
During this fortnight closure you will still be able to access other libraries in the borough or use the digital services online. Overdue charges at Wokingham Library will be suspended during this time
We’re so excited to bring you the fantastic new facility later this month, keep your eyes peeled for updates!
Could you host a Ukrainian family?
We’re looking to find new hosts for Ukrainians in our area.
We’re running an online event for those interested in hosting, from 6.30pm to 8pm on Tuesday 13 September.
The sessions will cover hosting and what it’s actually like, a chance to ask questions and more information on the support on offer to those which do this.
These will be a new home locally for someone who is already in Wokingham borough and beginning to settle in the area.
Hosting them will allow them to stay locally, stop disruption to schooling for children and prepare them to find their own home in the area in the future.

Last chance to have your say
Our Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan closes on Sunday (4 September).
The high level plan sets out ideas for new cycling and walking facilities across the borough. It helps us apply for Government funding for improvements.
There will be later consultation on more detailed plans if funding is found for them.
