If you want to try a new sport, why not visit Cantley Park in Wokingham for our free open day?
To celebrate National Fitness Day on Wednesday 21 September, we are putting on a wide range of activities and you can sign up for as many as you want.
The day kicks off with an outdoor bootcamp at 7.45am and will run until 6pm when the Power-Up activities for children finish.
Activities include: Pilates, My Journey/Dr Bike drop-in sessions, open tennis courts, yoga, boccia, Nordic walking, BXGFit taster session, cardio tennis, circuits and Zumba.
Visitors are asked to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for each activity and to bring a water bottle. Boxing gloves will be provided for the BXGFit taster session and poles are provided for Nordic walking, but anyone attending yoga is asked to bring their own mat if possible.
Staff will be available to answer questions and there will be healthy food offers at Cantley Park Café.
Although drop-ins will be accepted on the day, it is advised that you check capacity beforehand. If you are unable to access the booking system, you can call the sport and leisure team on (0118) 974 3728.
Book chat at the new Shinfield library
If you've yet to visit the Shinfield micro library, why not come along to our new Book Chat session on Friday 23 September to see this great space for yourself?
Part of the School Green Centre in Shinfield, the new self-serve library has around 2,000 books on offer for library users to enjoy.
Book chat is the perfect time to drop into the library, meet fellow book lovers, chat about your favourite books and swap recommendations of other titles you might like to read, whilst enjoying some great food and drink from the Robyn's Nest Cafe.
The chat takes place on Friday 23 September, 10.30am to 11.30am. The event is drop-in and there is no need to pre-book.
Balance Bike Challenge event
To celebrate World Car Free Day on Thursday 22 September, My Journey Wokingham is hosting its first Balance Bike challenge at the FBC in Finchampstead from 10.30am to 11.30am.
The challenge will be to ride around the track, negotiating various obstacles along the way, stopping at the zebra crossing and posting letters in the post box. There will be prizes for the children who complete the most laps of the track and My Journey goodies for everyone who completes one lap of the track
The free event is open to any child aged 2 to 4 years old who can ride a balance bike. Balance bikes are available to borrow if you do not have your own but you will need to bring your own child's cycle helmet.
Places should be booked in advance on the My Journey website.
Still time to row, row, row (or pedal!) your boat
Although the summer holidays are coming to an end, the boat hire service at Dinton Pastures Country Park will continue in the first week of September (1 to 4 September), and on every weekend of the month after that.
A range of boats are available for hire including pedalos, paddleboards, canoes, single and double kayaks. Boat hire is open to everyone aged two or over, though children aged under eight must be accompanied by an adult.
A standard boat hire slot lasts 30 minutes. You can book back-to-back pedalo slots every day, while for paddleboards and single kayaks, back-to-back slots are allowed on weekends only.
Your safety is our priority, so our staff at the Dinton Activity Centre will ensure that your safety equipment is fitted correctly and that you understand the rules for being on the lake before you head out on the water.
