New road for Wokingham now fully open
A major road built to serve new housing and provide a route around Wokingham town, which has new footpaths and cycle paths along its length, is now open in full.
On Wednesday (29 June) we opened the final section of the North Wokingham Distributor Road at Ashridge Farm, between Bell Foundry Lane and Dalley Road, to create a continuous route from Reading Road near the M4 overbridge to London Road near Coppid Beech roundabout.
The 3.5-mile road is the main access through the borough’s major new community at North Wokingham and offers an alternative route for through traffic avoiding the town centre.
It has an off-road cycle path to encourage active travel and reduce vehicle journeys, plus new nature parks where more than 2,000 trees have been planted and wildlife habitats created.
Fine for man who sold puppies without licence
A man who sold puppies without a licence has been fined following an investigation by the Public Protection Partnership.
Andrew Cash, of Belvedere Park, Wokingham, was convicted at Reading Magistrates’ Court on 17 June.
The 37-year-old was found guilty of selling three litters of cocker spaniel and cockapoo puppies. Cash did not attend the court hearing and the case was heard in his absence, where it was decided he would pay a total of £2,221 in fines, costs and victim surcharge.
Cash was prosecuted following an investigation by officers from the Public Protection Partnership Shared Trading Standards Service, supported by the Joint Case Management Unit.

Keeping the Gorse Ride community up-to-date
Residents had the chance to come along and meet the project team working on the Gorse Ride Regeneration to find out how the scheme is progressing.
With site clearance and preparatory work underway, the team visited the area to showcase an exhibition of detailed designs.
The team gave a presentation about some of the green features of the regeneration. This included air source heat pumps, high levels of insulation and glazing, and plentiful electric vehicle charging points.
There are proposed changes to a handful of properties. These have been allocated to individuals and families with specific needs and have been adapted to provide individualised solutions to help give them the highest quality of life. The plans will be subject to planning approval once submitted later this summer
