Funding available to help business decarbonise

Green Business Grants, the first of five projects to be launched with funding from the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), are expected to go live on Monday.

Teignbridge businesses keen to play their part in tackling climate change can from next week apply for decarbonisation grants to help them reduce emissions and energy costs within their workplaces.

£165,000 has been allocated for this financial year for Green Business Grants as part of the £1.6m UKSPF funding allocated to Teignbridge which runs until March 2025.

Companies can apply for grants ranging from £3,000 – £25,000 to pay for example for improvements such as LED lighting, low energy heating systems, heat pumps, double/triple glazed windows and doors or thermal insulations.

Applications must be made through the council’s website (This link will be live on Monday -teignbridge.gov.uk/greenbusinessgrant) and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  Any funding awarded must be spent by the 31 March 2023.

The Green Business Grants are also available to charities and not for profit organisations.

Household support fund live

The Household Support Fund reopened for applications on Monday, supporting residents most in need this winter.

It runs until 31 March, providing short-term financial support to meet immediate needs and help those struggling to afford food, energy and water bills and other essentials but will not provide cash.

Households that have received the £650 cost of living payment either through direct payment from the DWP or through part of this overarching scheme will not be considered for a payment nor will those who have previously received Household Support Fund payments.

Having been awarded £336,291 from the Department of Work and Pensions and Devon County Council, we allocated £219,370 for direct payments to residents already identified as in need of help and also targeted support for carers who did not receive other cost of living payments. We also allocated £60,000 to the Community and Voluntary Sector and Exeter Community Energy.

The remaining £56,000 will now be distributed to people applying for help via our website and the scheme will close when all the funding has been spent.

0% loans to help spread the cost of home heating

Teignbridge.gov.uk Bulk buy fuel loans for off-gas homes. (0% representative APR) subject to status. lendology.cic

Living without mains gas can be expensive. For those who are buying home heating fuel in bulk, a council funded loan may be a good solution to spread the cost.

We are working in partnership with Social Enterprise lender Lendology CIC, to provide 0% Bulk Buy Fuel loans to homeowners, social tenants, and private tenants to spread the cost over the winter months.

The loan can be used to purchase oil, gas, wood or other bulk buy fuel sources and is repayable over six to 12 months.  Lendology encourage people to save alongside the loan where possible to create resilience in paying for the next bulk purchase and to use local bulk buy schemes to save money.

Lendology’s Renewable Energy Loans are available to support homeowners to de-carbonise their homes by moving to more sustainable heating solutions, however this may not be a feasible option for everyone, and so bulk buying fuel is a requirement and finding the funding upfront can be challenging.

Building Control awards ceremony with some of the finalists and Devon Building Control representatives

Building Control awards celebration

Staff from Devon Building Control attended the LABC Grand Final Awards at The Westminster Plaza Hotel in London last week.

Five companies from the area made it to the final in different award categories with Lilburn and Elliott Construction Ltd winning the Best Residential and Small Commercial Builder category.  Judging is based on not just the end result but the quality of craftmanship and the relationship between builder and Building Control Surveyor.

Devon Building Control were also nominated for Best Building Control Team but unfortunately, they were pipped by Bath and North East Building Control.
