Huge congratulations to Hannah Rapley who has been successful in becoming the new Higher Level Early Years Inclusion Outreach Officer. Well done Hannah!

We are delighted to be recruiting another Early Years Inclusion Outreach Officer and would welcome applications from experienced SEND practitioners and Early Years SENCos from settings within the city. Please do have a look and consider whether this could be the role for you. This is a fixed term or secondment for up to two years to cover for a secondment absence. If you would like to have an informal discussion about the role, please contact Sue Bowler or Ella Harbut by emailing EYInclusion@portsmouthcc.gov.uk. The deadline for applications is 15 September.

Sadly, our lovely Quality and Sufficiency Officer Connie Brazier is leaving us at the end of September. She has worked in Portsmouth City Council for 9 years and has supported many providers over the years with her knowledge and expertise. She will be very missed by us all in the team, but we wish her all the best in her new role.

The national 50 things organisation have developed a new webinar for early years practitioners. We would encourage as many of you as possible to attend. 'Engaging parents with your setting using 50 Things to Do Before You're Five' is free to attend and is taking place on 12 September from 3.30pm - 5.30pm. You can reserve a spot and find out more here.

We hope lots of your families and children were able to take part in the 50 things experiences at home and out and about in Portsmouth over the summer.

If you could take a moment to answer the two questions below, this will help us to identify how 50 things is being used:

  • How have you been able to publicise 50 things to your families? E.g. given out leaflets, added 50 things QR codes to your websites and social media etc
  • Have parents given you any feedback on the 50 things experiences?

We have access to 50 things to do before you’re 5 for the next few years and really want to engage as many families and early years practitioners to take part. Please let us know of any other ways you are getting involved or if you have any further suggestions to develop this project.

Please send your responses to gemma.frank@portsmouthcc.gov.uk

Please see the Parenting offer from Early Help and Prevention for the 5-19 age group.

There have been a few changes to the offer, including a name change for the rebuilding relationships; this is now going to be known as NVR Lite. NVR Lite will become a part of the universal offer, meaning a Family Support Plan is no longer needed to access this course. NVR Lite is suitable for those parents who are starting to see emerging aggressive behaviour from their child, which is starting to impact on the family relationships. The course uses the NVR principles to restore family relationships.

There are no Triple P discussion groups this term due to lack of engagement from parents.

A Parenting When Separated course, which will be trialled and starts in early October. Please speak to any parents who may benefit from attending this course. This is also part of the universal offer, so no Family Support Plan is required, just the following information:

  • Name and DOB of focus child
  • Parent(s) name, contact number, address and email address.
  • Of those being referred - do they need any special requirement or adjustments made in order for them to access support?
  • Please also include a brief summary of the current situation and the impact this is having on the child and parent.

Please see information on the Family Assist portal, which is a great place for parents to start looking for support. Once they have registered on Family Assist, they can access a wide variety of information for all ages and stages.

Parents can also access Solihull on-line parenting courses. These are for all ages and stages. Parents just need to use the access code PARENTSUPPORT. There are a couple of courses that are for young people to access.

If you have any question in regards to the support on offer, please contact Denise Hooper, Parenting Co-ordinator.
