Rebel Business School is an alternative to traditional business start-up support and aims to work in specific communities to teach people how to start a business without borrowing money and without a formal business plan.

Black Entrepreneurs Event Leaflet

The Start Up programme will help you get started and provides workshops, a business mentor and coach for 6 months as well as access to office space if required. The Step Up programme allows SMEs to grow their business as well as accessing training for team members looking to contribute more to your business, together with a business mentor and coach for 6 months.

Do you have an hour or two a week to spare? QCCA, a vibrant, friendly, community centre based in Camden, is looking for volunteers to support its older people’s programme. The Covid-19 pandemic has been a really stressful time for everyone, especially the most vulnerable and isolated members of our community and the centre urgently needs volunteers to help with the following:
- Telephone befrienders
- Volunteers to accompany the minibus driver to collect people for trips to and from the centre and for outings
- Lunch and coffee morning volunteers
- Volunteers to accompany members on short walks
- Volunteers to share skills and help run sessions, e.g. art club, quizzes, etc.

Well Grounded runs a series of Specialty Coffee Training Academies for unemployed adults. They empower people with the skills, training, mentorship and qualifications they need to access work in the speciality coffee industry. Their aftercare programme transitions over 70% of graduates into work, further training and education, and provides ongoing free wellbeing and coffee training. Roger's Kitchen in Camden is working in partnership with Good Work Camden to provide unemployed members of the community an opportunity to begin paid work within the hospitality industry. They are currently looking for floor staff and a trainee Chef to join their vibrant team. Groundwork London, in partnership with multiple other employers, will be creating a large number of Kickstart vacancies in the grounds maintenance sector throughout 2021. They will be running multiple 2 week practical horticulture courses. Candidates will learn about plant identification, the use of a wide range of gardening tools, and achieve a Level 1 in Practical Horticultural Skills. Those who complete the course will be supported to apply for relevant Kickstart vacancies in their local area. Groundwork London, in partnership with multiple other employers, will be creating a large number of Kickstart vacancies in the grounds maintenance sector throughout 2021. To be eligible for this course, you must be aged 16-24 and not in education, employment, or training.

People's Voice Media and Camden Disability Action will explore lived experience stories relating to employment of Disabled residents and people with long-term health conditions in Camden. Using the themes and topics from these stories, together they will come up with initial ideas for a new employment service for Disabled people and those with long term health conditions. We make Camden have launched their website, a place where Camden residents can come together to share experiences and ideas to help build a better community and borough for everyone. The website showcases some of the activities residents are leading as well as ways others can get involved. As part of their commitment to work together to shape Camden's future, they have partnered with Camden Giving to offer funding and support to make local ideas come to life.
The “We Make Camden Kit” gives money and support to Camden residents and community groups who have great ideas for their communities. Residents and community groups can receive up to £1,500 to deliver ideas that contribute to four core themes, also known as Camden’s missions:

Food poverty and sustainability - encouraging experimentation, new partnerships, entrepreneurial activity and community-led activities responding to food poverty.

Diversity in positions of power – making leadership positions more accessible and inclusive to people from a wide range of backgrounds by removing traditional barriers to entry and to develop and promote modern and inclusive leadership spaces.

Health and sustainability of estates – creating neighbourhoods and living spaces that people love to live in.

Opportunities for young people – helping young people explore their interests, express creatively, and be safe to experiment and try out things so that they can make well-informed choices about their future.
Residents can also receive support with insurance, safeguarding and connections to make their ideas a success. Accelerate is a pioneering education and mentoring programme aimed at increasing diversity in the built environment profession. It gives students the confidence and skills needed to make strong university applications to study architecture and other related courses. Geared at ambitious Year 12 and 13 students, who potentially wish to pursue a career in architecture or design relating to the built environment (engineering, planning etc). Students must live or go to school in Camden.
Accelerate provides students with one to one mentoring with an architect at their London office, skills development workshops in a university environment, peer to peer learning with university students, an architecture project brief devised by UCL and Open-City and guidance workshops on portfolio production and university applications All Accelerate participants will also showcase their work in an exhibition held in a central London venue. The programme starts in October 2021 and ends May 2022. The deadline for applications is Friday 17 September 2021. Please email sophie@open-city.org,uk for an application form.
Camden is the first council in the UK to join Google's Career Certificates programme, offering 500 exclusive license to Camden residents. The licenses will provide learners with job-ready skills within the tech and IT sector. Each programme is completely free of charge and can be completed within six months. There is no eligibility criteria, anyone can do it, anywhere, in their own time! Camden is currently running four programmes; IT support, data analytics, project management and UX design.

The deadline for course completion in December 21st 2021 and learners have already completed several programmes in under a three month period, don't miss out on your chance to be one!
Google Career Certificates
If you're aged 19 and over and are looking for a job or further training to move to the next level of your career, New City College offers a range of short courses that will provide you with a qualification recognised by employers, free to those who are in receipt of benefits or on low incomes.
Training can be delivered to individuals or groups in the classroom, through an online / blended classroom model or via distance learning. Whether you are looking to work as a door supervisor, a cleaner or in a school, or need to gain basic employability and digital skills, New City College have a course for you. Our aim is that no child should go hungry, no parent should go hungry to feed their child, and no one should be left struggling and without anywhere to turn. As growing numbers of people need support to feed themselves and their families, we want to make it easier to get help, sharing where you can find food banks and other important information about the services that are offered.
