East Devon marks Refugee Week
 Credit: Ihor Andriienko
Refugee Week (19-25 June) is coming to a close, and we would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to East Devon's hosts who have provided sanctuary to more than 300 Ukrainian guests. Thanks too to our hardworking Homes for Ukraine team and local community groups, who have provided follow-up support and helped guests integrate into Devon life.
With no end in sight to the invasion, East Devon residents with spare rooms are still needed to provide vulnerable refugees with safe homes. To find out more about how you can support Ukranian guests
East Devon District Council are also supporting Refugee Support Devon, to assist refugees who aren't part of the Homes for Ukraine Scheme. To find out more about their work click here.
There'll be Eastern European food, music, and entertainment for the whole family at Powderham Castle on 15 July

Electric vehicle charging in car parks update
As part of East Devon District Council’s commitment to net zero emissions by 2040, Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers have been installed in car parks across the district.
Charging points operated by Wenea are available in Axminster, Beer, Budleigh Salterton, Colyton, and Sidmouth. There are also charging points operated by Scottish Power in Beer, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Honiton, Seaton and Sidmouth. For more information, visit our EV (Electric Vehicle) charging in car parks webpage.
Wenea has committed extra funds to upgrade National Grid capacity, so that additional EV chargers at the Imperial Road site will be ready for public use as soon as is possible. It is hoped that this will be by the end of 2023. To avoid disruption to one of the most popular car parks locally, until these chargers are brought online, these spaces will be made available for pay and display parking

Be a Super-Recycler and be recycling sack savvy
The trays with heavy food waste contamination shown, have been put into recycling sacks causing contamination.
Help us to cut out the contamination, by only putting the items we can recycle from the kerb-side in your recycling sack.
Please remove food residue from your pots, tubs and trays as it contaminates the valuable plastics and foil. Your food waste should go into your food caddy for recycling.
Keeping contamination down means that we can more easily recycle the items we can collect and reduces the risk of a rejected load at the processing stage.
For more information, please visit our A-Z of recycling and disposals.
Thank you,
The Recycling Team
