 News and updates:
Clear up operations take place following flash flooding
East Devon experienced intense rainfall and flash flooding across a number of communities during Tuesday evening. We'd like to say a massive thank you to the emergency services who helped those affected, Devon Community Resilience Forum, as well as the whole team operation from StreetScene, who've worked in partnership with Devon County Council, and all of the residents who've supported their neighbours.
Clear ups continue to take place with StreetScene staff members from the Exmouth Town and Seafront team joining the Ottery team, helping REACT. There has been some great collaborative working, with staff pulled away from their usual day-to-day duties, working really hard to clear up areas such as the Barton Mews junction in Venn Ottery.
If you've been affected by flooding, visit the East Devon District Council webpages for more information, advice and contact details.

Following the elections held on Thursday, 4 May, our Councillors information on the website will be updated to reflect the new members elected. Please bear with us whilst these changes are made and new email accounts are set up.
East Devon remains one of the top recyclers in England
For the fourth year in a row, East Devon ranked first for the lowest volume of residual waste collected from households
National figures show that once again, East Devon continues to be one of the top performing local authorities in terms of its recycling and waste collections.
We've jumped from 141st place in 2016/17 to 5th place in 2021/2022 in the recycling rate league table for England.
Work begins on Sidmouth's Jacob's Ladder Beach sea wall
On Wednesday, work began on the sea wall at Jacob's Ladder Beach in Sidmouth. A temporary scaffolding ramp has been erected to allow the public to continue to use the Millenium Walkway. Work will take just over a month, during normal working hours, to limit disruption in the evenings and weekends.
Have your say on how the South West adapts to climate change
The Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Climate Adaptation Strategy is now open for consultation until Friday 30 June
This is a crucial opportunity to comment on key climate issues on a local level and shape the region’s future in the face of the climate crisis. Have your say here, read the Strategy, then fill out the questionnaire.
Hear a breakdown of the Strategy and ask questions at a free webinar on Tuesday 16 May, 5-6pm.
Join the #UnityWave as UK and Ukraine are #UnitedByMusic
This year, Liverpool is hosting on behalf of last year’s winners Ukraine. As our countries unite through music, we’d like to thank our hardworking Homes for Ukraine team, wonderful hosts and local community groups, who’ve united families and communities. If you'd like to learn more about being a host, read more here.
Tell us about your shared connections, passions, values, and the similarities between our two countries by tagging us in a social media post with the hashtag #TheUnityWave
In last week's Residents' Update we called for donations to help vulnerable refugees in the local area. Thank you to everyone who brought in donations on Thursday.
Upcoming collections from Blackdown House, Honiton on 18 and 25 May will be taken between 9am-1pm.
Are you taking part in No Mow May?
If you'd like to send in pictures of your lawns we would love to see them, please email environment@eastdevon.gov.uk.
We recently shared some ideas on how you can boost biodiversity on your doorstep. This month, by refraining from mowing your grass, you can encourage wildlife and plant diversity in your garden. If the whole lawn is a step too far, leave one corner or strip of your lawn unmown.
