 DSLS Working Group Representatives
To ensure that the voice of schools is heard, Devon school leaders attend numerous statutory boards and working groups across the county.
Each year, representation on these groups is reviewed and the following representatives were agreed for 2025-26: DSLS Working Group Representatives.
Additionally, the Schools Leadership Group (DSLS SLG Membership 2025-26) acts as a conduit for two-way communication to regularly update schools with key messages and on work being undertaken at local authority groups. See the updates from the various autumn/spring term meetings below.

Schools and academies Model Staff Leave and Absence Policy
The Staff Leave and Absence policy for Schools and Academies has been updated in line with the changes made to the Devon County Council Corporate Compassionate Leave Policy (inc. Parental Bereavement Leave), and the Corporate Emergency Time Off for Dependents Policy.
Following feedback from Managers and Trade Unions, and having undertaken benchmarking with other local authorities, it was agreed to increase paid Compassionate Leave entitlement up to 10 working days (pro rata), which includes the statutory entitlement to Parental Bereavement Leave, and to increase Emergency Time Off for Dependents from unpaid leave to up to 5 days paid leave, in a 12 month rolling period.
Coding Structure Changes from April 2026 (2026/27)
It has been confirmed that, following the recent consultation, schools will be moved over to the Unit 4 coding structure from April 2026. The recent consultation with schools had provided a 60:40 in favour of transitioning across to the new coding structure from April 26, rather than April 27.
The Education Finance Team will work with schools in the conversion of codes to the new Unit 4 coding structure. This will be completed using extracted reports from Bromcom, including cost centre ledger links, CFR and Base Pay Mapping, which will then be converted to the new codes and imported.
Further details will follow with guidance and next steps for schools in this process.
