Can you believe August is already here? As summer winds down, families are buzzing with preparation for the upcoming school year.

I want to wish all the students, parents, teachers, and school staff a wonderful, smooth, and successful start to the school year! To help students step into the classroom feeling confident and fully equipped, I wanted to share a list of upcoming Back-to-School-Bashes that can provide school supplies, community resources, and fun family activities.

While back-to-school season is underway, peak summer temperatures are still in full effect. We encourage everyone to take extra precautions to stay safe in extreme heat.
Remember to stay hydrated, wear loose light clothing, and avoid peak sun hours (typically between 10 AM and 4 PM).

If you or someone you know needs relief from the high temperatures, please visit one of the city’s designated local cooling centers.

CODE VIOLATIONS | PART 2: SOLID WASTE VIOLATIONS

Welcome back to our code compliance series where we look at the top five reported code violations across District 11 (2025). This month, we’re highlighting Solid Waste Violations, a key factor in neighborhood cleanliness, public health, and overall quality of life.

Whether it’s out-of-cycle bulk, improper trash storage, or illegal dumping, following the City of Fort Worth’s solid waste ordinances helps keep our community safe and beautiful.

Solid Bulk Waste Regulations

The City of Fort Worth provides monthly curbside pickup for bulky items that do not fit in the brown garbage bins. Residents may place up to 10 cubic yards of bulk waste at the curb on their assigned pickup day. Items such as glass, concrete, tires, and household appliances containing coolant, gasoline, or other hazardous chemicals will not be collected. Incorrect or out‑of‑cycle set‑outs may result in city collection fees starting at $123.52.

Illegal Dumping
Leaving trash, brush, furniture, or debris on public rights of way, vacant lots, private property, or in dumpsters you do not own is illegal and can result in fines of up to $2,000 per offense.

If you have extra household garbage, recycling, yard waste, or bulk waste, you may use one of the city's four Drop‑Off Stations.

To access this service, bring a copy or photo of your current (within six months) Water Utility bill with the sanitation charges listed under Account Activity and a matching driver’s license. If you live in a Fort Worth apartment, simply bring your driver’s license.

General Solid Waste & Accumulation
The city provides weekly curbside waste collection for residents. To ensure smooth pickup, set out your carts by 7 AM on your assigned collection day with the lid fully closed. If your bins have not been collected by 7 PM, report the missed pickup through the MYFW App or call 817‑392‑1234 within 24 hours.

Residents who are elderly or disabled may call 817-392-1234 to request help with garbage and recycling collection.

RAILROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS COMING TO DISTRICT 11

The City’s Transportation and Public Works Department (TPW) is hosting two online public meetings to update residents on the upcoming Railroad Safety Improvements project for the Trinity Railway Express at Riverside Drive and North Beach Street.

HEMPHILL CORRIDOR UPDATE

To support safety and multimodal access, Hemphill Street (from Hammond Street to Vickery Blvd.) was restriped from five lanes down to three lanes in 2020.

After hearing residents’ concerns about increased congestion and constraints along Hemphill, the City developed three scenarios that could alleviate resident concern. From June 22 – July 31, residents had the opportunity to provide feedback on the scenarios by completing a survey.

On August 26, the TPW team will present their final recommendations based on public input received from the April 2026 meeting and the community survey.

FY 2027 BUDGET MEETING

Join city staff at the District 11 budget meeting to learn about the proposed FY2027 budget and ask questions.

The meeting will also be livestreamed on the City's website and YouTube. Questions and comments can be submitted before and during the meeting at www.ConnectFW.com.

The city is hosting budget meetings in every district. All residents are welcome to attend any meeting, regardless of the district in which they live. Here is a list of other public meetings.

Here are proposed zoning changes that will be coming before City Council in District 11 neighborhoods. To seize the opportunity for your voice to be heard, I encourage you to sign up for zoning notifications and attend upcoming Zoning Commission or the designated City Council Meetings.

We are excited to share two District 11 businesses that have advanced to the next round of the Fort Worth Business Plan Competition.

Panther City Eye Care, located at 2902 Race St., is a locally owned optometry practice serving the Riverside community with accessible, patient-centered care focused on lifelong eye health.

Green Thistle Emporium, located at 2800 Race St., is a collective of local small businesses in the Riverside Arts District offering refillable home and body products while supporting sustainability and local makers.

As the competition continues, participants will complete business training and develop comprehensive business plans. The top eight finalists will be selected to present their ideas to a panel of judges on October 15 at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, where the top three businesses will receive cash prizes.

We are proud to see District 11 represented in this year's competition and wish both businesses the best of luck in the next round.
