Oregon–South Korea Aviation Delegation Visit: July 26–30, 2026
Oregon will host an aviation delegation from South Korea July 26–30, 2026, bringing leaders from government, industry, and research institutions to explore opportunities in uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), advanced air mobility, aerospace manufacturing, and aviation services.
The visit will spotlight Oregon’s statewide airport system, strong innovation ecosystem, and the diverse mix of rural, coastal, and urban testing environments that position the state as an ideal U.S. entry point for Korean aviation companies.
Throughout the week, delegates will participate in technical briefings, industry sessions, B2B meetings, airport and test range tours, manufacturing demonstrations, and regional site visits across Portland, Scappoose, Pendleton, Hermiston, Hood River, and Tillamook.
Organizations, industry partners, and community leaders are invited to join select events to connect with the delegation and explore opportunities for collaboration, investment, and long‑term partnership.

ODAV Releases UAS Operations and Policy Manual Template for State and Local Agencies
ODAV has released a new Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operations and Policy Manual template to help Oregon state agencies, cities, counties, special districts, and other public bodies develop safe and consistent drone programs.
The template is designed as a practical starting point for agencies that use, or are considering the use of, drones for public works, transportation, emergency management, natural resources, infrastructure inspection, mapping, environmental monitoring, training, and other governmental functions.

ODAV Releases New Drone Training and Testing Template for Oregon Public Agencies
ODAV has released a new training and testing companion to its public agency drone policy template, giving Oregon public bodies a clearer path for training, evaluating, and documenting the people who fly drones for public work.
The earlier ODAV template helped agencies answer an important question: What rules should guide public agency drone use? This new document answers the next question: How do we know the people using those drones are trained, tested, and ready for the mission?

Connect Oregon – Aviation Modal Committee Review
The State Aviation Board, acting as the Connect Oregon Aviation Modal Committee, met on July 9 to review the Connect Oregon aviation applications and create a funding recommendation for the Connect Oregon final review committee. Applicants provided presentations and answered questions by board members, followed by board discussion and vote on the funding recommendation. The applications and recommendation may be found on our website under the July 9th board meeting. On June 13, 2026 the Friends of Pacific City State Airport held their 9th annual work party! These work parties are to support the on-going maintenance and improvement of the airport. Volunteers worked hard painting, cleaning debris, tree removal and the repair of a pot hole on Rueppell Road. The Oregon Department of Aviation encourages all pilots to fly safe and neighborly. At the Aurora State Airport (UAO), we have developed noise abatement procedures to help avoid noise sensitive communities around the airport. Please fly neighborly and follow these procedures to reduce your noise impact.

Oakridge State Airport (5S0) Runway Rehabilitation Project - Update
The contractors are paving at Oakridge. The runway and new taxiways have been paved, and the 4 new concrete hardstands for firefighting aircraft have been poured. Paving the apron continues, and we expect the airport to reopen in early August, which is a slight delay due to heavy rain in late June. The contractor also unearthed a giant tree stump hidden under the middle of the apron. Removing the stump will provide for a more stable base and prevent premature pavement failure.

Ontario Municipal Airport 2025
Priority 1 – FAA match
Ontario Municipal Airport serves a variety of airport users including agriculture, tourism, medical, military, and firefighting in far eastern Oregon. In 2025, the airport installed approximately 2,600 ft of chain link perimeter fence and an automated gate to increase airfield security in safety. Additionally, the project is in support of the future Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Aerial Fire Fighting Center, as well as airport hangar development. This project has helped to ensure that air travel in and out of the City of Ontario is safe and secure well into the future.

Airport maintenance crews have been hard at work across Oregon, with mowing continuing to be the primary focus this season. Recently, the team traveled to Joseph State Airport to mow and prepare the airport ahead of the annual fly-in, while continuing routine mowing and maintenance at all 28 state-owned airports.
Our Airport Operations Specialist has also been busy improving airport facilities by spraying weeds and repainting windsock poles and segmented circles at Alkali Lake, Rome, McDermitt, and Owyhee State Airports.
“We’ve won the battle with brush on the runway” Don Richcreek said, reflecting on years of catching up on overgrowth and striking a balance with cost-effective vegetation control.
