OhioMHAS Announces More Than $10M in Grants to Support Mothers With Substance Use Disorders
This week, OhioMHAS announced more than $10 million in grant awards to 45 providers across the state to expand access to treatment and support services for pregnant women and mothers of young children living with substance use disorders.
“All children deserve the chance to live up to their full, God-given potential,” said Governor Mike DeWine. “Supporting Ohio’s mothers, whether they are recovering from addiction or finding treatment, gives them an opportunity to start a new chapter in their lives and support their kids.”
Providers in 31 counties will use the funds to serve an estimated 8,500 Ohio families with evidence-based, family-centered care. Funded through the Women’s Treatment portion of the federal Substance Use Block Grant (SUBG), the awards will assist in removing common barriers to care by funding programs that provide integrated services for both mothers and their dependent children. Services may include:
- Behavioral health treatment
- Medication for substance use disorders
- OB/GYN and pediatric care
- Primary care coordination
- Therapeutic services for children
“These investments are a step forward in addressing the unique challenges women face in addiction and recovery,” said OhioMHAS Director LeeAnne Cornyn. “With these funds, we can expand access to the most compassionate care during a particularly vulnerable time and help thousands of women reclaim their lives, strengthen their families, and build healthier futures.”

Adult Mobile Crisis Listening Sessions Continue
OhioMHAS continued its listening sessions around the state this week giving alcohol, drug addiction, and mental health (ADAMH) boards (ADAMH), providers, law enforcement, and hospital systems in the Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare and Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare catchment areas a seat at the table to discuss current and best practices for the implementation of a statewide Adult Mobile Crisis system. |
|
 |
The stops were the third and fourth of the listening tour, with plans to continue the tour until all six catchment areas have had the opportunity to provide their input prior to the roll out of a pilot program. This program would be reflective of the collaborative effort between all six areas across the state to create a best practices approach to providing crisis care to adults in Ohio.
