Public Works crews prepare their trucks for weekend snow.

Winter Weather Advisory

• Plow plan: Public Works will have trucks out during the early morning hours and plan to initiate a full-scale citywide plow at 11 a.m.  The latest forecast calls for 3.5” of snow ending around noon.  Crews will likely complete their work by dusk.

Administration

• Expressions of Blackness is scheduled for Feb. 20 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. This joint event with the city of Hopkins will both celebrate Black History Month and bring together Black vendors from across the region.
  
  
• Shared values adopted by the council in January are now visible on the city website.

Fire

• Awards banquet: The department's annual banquet is scheduled for March 22.

Police

• Search warrant: Members of the SWAT and negotiations teams executed a search warrant at a residence early Wednesday. The Minneapolis Police Community Response Team contacted Minnetonka investigators regarding a shooting where the suspect was alleged to have used a handgun with a switch device. A young man eventually exited the home without any incident and was arrested. Police recovered the weapon in question during a search.

Public Works

• Schweiger appointment: Water Resources Engineer Sarah Schweiger was recently appointed to the American Public Works Association (APWA) National Nominating Committee. Members select candidates for APWA leadership positions. APWA has more than 32,000 members internationally.
• Pruning: Crews have completed 27 lane miles of right-of-way tree pruning, putting this work ahead of schedule for the season.
• Forestry staff is meeting with applicants of the Releaf Grant Program to assist in choosing replacement trees for those removed due to disease.
