Boost employee wellbeing with little to no budget

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, workplaces have been rethinking and reprioritizing employee health and wellness. While companies are making great strides, there is much work to be done. Since spring of this year, more Americans have voluntarily left their jobs than ever before, a trend some have dubbed “The Great Resignation.” The reasons for this shift in the workforce are complex, but many cite a lack of staff connectedness and employees feeling undervalued and not cared for or listened to by their employer.

It’s great to see more workplaces are recognizing the need — and wanting to prioritize —employee engagement and wellbeing. Unfortunately, that doesn’t (or can’t) always translate to financial backing.

The goal for Health@Work has always been to provide low- and no-cost resources to help you better support your employees’ wellbeing. If you are a wellness coordinator operating on little to no budget, click on the links below to access these affordable resources that you may have missed this past year.

In the spirit of the holidays, we give you our Health@Work 2021 year in review. Enjoy!

  • Throughout 2021 we continued our free Advancing Wellness Together health and racial equity events. Many of our presenters agreed to be recorded. Here is the talk Albert Jordan gave on quality and DEIB. Catherine Flavin spoke about creating family friendly workplaces (part 1 and part 2). And most recently Wendy Horng Brawer gave a talk (first 22 minutes, 10 minute wrap-up, PowerPoint) on the role of white leaders in health equity.
  • We offered four campaign coordinator trainings in 2021: Paths to Positivity (mental health), Step to It (physical health), Take it outside! (mental and physical health), and NEW for 2021, The Frosty Four (physical, mental, social, and financial health). Contact Kelly Harjes to purchase these (and more) turn-key campaign materials anytime for just $25.
  • In September we offered our bi-annual “worksite wellness 101” training, Tools for Success. One tool we shared was this resource list for supporting remote workers and creating a culture of wellbeing and inclusion.
  • In May we offered a networking event on supporting family friendly practices featuring guest speaker Leslie Forde. Here is part 1and part 2 of Leslie’s presentation. And in October we offered the Worksite Wellness in Action networking event in partnership with the Minneapolis Regional Chamber and Minneapolis Health Department. This event included an introduction to our NEW mspWellness Champions designation program. If you would like to earn recognition for your wellness efforts in 2022, click here for the mspWellness Champions information and application. There is no cost to apply for this award.
  • Each month in 2021 we provided a wellness newsletter on a different topic full of tips for you, the wellness coordinator. (Just like the one you’re reading right now!) Here are the January-December 2021 newsletters:
