SSIS users are invited to learn about the new Relative Search screen that will be available in SSIS v21.4. This new screen is related to requirements from the federal government regarding the Family First Prevention Services Act.
An SSIS and the Relative Search webinar will be presented November 30th from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Registration is required. The session will be recorded and posted for future reference.
The Minnesota Department of Human Services would like your input on how to improve the online learning experience of the SSIS Essentials curriculum.
A short survey, which should take five to ten minutes to complete, has been designed to gather information from SSIS users. Feedback gathered will be used in shaping, planning, and redesigning the SSIS Essentials eLearning curriculum as well as future courses available. The survey will be open until December 3, 2021.
Minnesota Department of Human Services staff thank you for continuing to report issues with the Social Service Information System (SSIS) and impacts those issues have on your ability to complete agency work. SSIS Help Desk staff are closely tracking reports from county/Tribal users, and continuing to work closely with MNIT partners on resolving issues resulting in unacceptable slowness. The identified issues, not isolated to one IT function, include databases, infrastructure, and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) changes. MNIT leadership designated resolution of these issues as a priority for the various MNIT teams working on solutions to improve user experiences. MNIT staff is reviewing reported experiences of users, as well as working to identify and correct components of applications having issues.
SSIS Help Desk has received fewer reports of slowness since last week. We will continue to track calls and may ask specific agency mentors/workers to report any incidents of lagging. Please continue to report issues you are experiencing with SSIS, and include specific details.
While some efforts will result in immediate relief for users; others will require more time and effort.
Technical efforts to identify and resolve issues specific to SSIS applications, and MAARC for county and Tribal agencies within the past week:
- SSIS Help Desk is monitoring reports related to slowness and performance, including reaching out to several agencies around Minnesota for Tier 2 Help desk reported that performance with in the application has been much better for several counties since the middle of last week. No major complaints, only reports of periodic slowness.
- The MNIT Enterprise Horizon team found three host servers causing issues in production and removed them from the pool for analysis.
Continuing efforts:
- Utilizing software that monitors the SSIS Horizon servers, resulting in removing servers from the server pool, if not performing. Staff monitoring of Horizon Servers at various times of the day for issues and reports to the appropriate teams if necessary. No out of the ordinary issues found.
- Continued testing with Scott and Washington counties with a new Horizon environment
- Working to increase users in each agency on the new server and then to move the rest of the users.
- Minimal testing has been completed.
- Researching query latency by the database team. On November 1, it was determined that Optimization Plans were not refreshing; this was resolved with a process to update Plans in place, immediately helping with latency.
- Conducting analysis regarding slowness regarding the RTF editor, including possible removal of the HYDRA component from SSIS. Not a quick fix to this issue; it will take several months and significant work to remove and replace HYDRA. Implementing the change will require a release.
- Building a Baseline Network timing diagram for MAARC. This allows for comparison with the baseline when reports of latency in MAARC.
- Building baseline screen timings using an automated testing tool. This is used to compare system performance at various times of the day.
- MICROSOFT review the system, specifically servers within the system.
It’s time again to begin preparation for the new year ahead. The Annual Preferences presentation and accompanying script will provide guidance in the annual process of establishing agency preferences for CY 2022.
If you have any questions, please contact the SSIS Help Desk.
In SSIS, User Settings, User Grid Settings, and User Spelling Settings can be adjusted to display items in a certain way. It is recommended that workers back up their user settings in SSIS prior to each new release to ensure settings are not lost. The process is easy and only takes a few minutes. Instructions to back up user settings in SSIS can be found here.
