September 1 Continuous Improvement Plan Reminder
As you prepare for the start of the school year, this is a friendly reminder that Michigan Revised School Code (MCL 380.1277) requires every local school district and public-school academy to maintain a current three- to five-year continuous improvement plan with yearly monitoring with updates and make that plan available to the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) by September 1 each year.
If your district uses the MICIP platform, an active plan should have a Data Story with a status of "In Portfolio." If your district maintains its continuous improvement plan outside of the MICIP platform, please remember that while use of the MICIP platform is optional, a current continuous improvement plan is still required under the law.
Need help cleaning up your MICIP portfolio? If you have outdated or duplicate Data Stories and would like assistance deleting old plans or ensuring the status of your current Data Story is "In Portfolio", please contact Dr. Dot Blackwell, MICIP Lead, for support.

The MICIP Team is excited to provide a special sneak peek at the October Michigan Association of State and Federal Program Specialists (MASFPS) Professional Learning Institute, offering a preview of what's to come through our new conference partnership with MASFPS.
This session will serve as the kickoff to a collaborative professional learning experience, leading to the joint MASFPS & Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Spring Professional Learning Institute in April 2027.

Article One: Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) Overview
What is the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) framework and how does it relate to continuous improvement? WSCC, sometimes referred to as “whole child,” is a required part of districts’ continuous improvement goals, but how can districts create a goal that integrates academics with WSCC work? Before we dig deep, lets start with an overview of WSCC.
WSCC is a student-centered framework that emphasizes the connection between health and academic achievement and the importance of evidence-based school policies and practices. The WSCC model, or Whole Child, includes Five Tenets that surround the child in the center. The five tenets include:

Healthy: Students learn in a healthy environment and practice healthy habits.

Safe: The school environment is physically and emotionally secure for all.
-
Engaged: Students are actively involved in learning and connected to their school and broader community.

Supported: Access to personalized learning is provided and supported by caring adults.
-
Challenged: Students are academically prepared for future success.
This series will include key pieces of the WSCC framework and will offer examples of how whole child strategies can be integrated into your academic goals. Next up in the series will include two of the ten WSCC components, Health Education and Physical Education/Physical Activity.

Under the Hood of MICIP: Tips and Tricks to Navigate the Platform
Usage Reports for ISD/RESA Staff
Did you know? ISD/RESA staff have access to a Usage Report within the Administrator Settings in MICIP.
As we prepare for a new school year, now is a great time to review your districts' MICIP users to ensure access is current and accurate.
From the Usage Report, you can:

Review user email addresses by district.
-
Identify users who have retired or no longer need access.
-
Find users who have not logged into MICIP in the last 365 days.

Export the report to CSV to easily sort and organize users by district for follow-up.
Taking a few minutes to review and clean up user accounts helps ensure the right people have access to MICIP and supports a smooth start to the upcoming school year.
To add a "Support ISD": Click on "Administrator Settings", then click on "District Support", then click "Add Support ISDE" and search and find the ISD.
Explore Data Set Templates
MICIP includes built-in Data Set Templates to help jump-start your team's data analysis.
To access them, navigate to the Assess step in MICIP and scroll to the bottom of the page. You'll find several ready-to-use templates designed to support meaningful data exploration, including:

These templates provide a great starting point for identifying relevant data objects and focusing your team's conversations around continuous improvement.
