Michigan iGaming, sports betting operators report $210.4M in September revenue
DETROIT, Oct. 24, 2023 — Michigan commercial and tribal operators reported a combined $210.4 million total internet gaming (iGaming) gross receipts and gross sports betting receipts in September. Gross receipts increased 20% compared to August results.
September iGaming gross receipts totaled $166.4 million and gross sports betting receipts totaled $44.0 million. In August 2023, iGaming gross receipts were $152.2 million and gross sports betting receipts were $23.2 million.
Combined total iGaming and internet sports betting adjusted gross receipts (AGR) for September were $168.5 million, including $149.8 million from iGaming and $18.7 million from internet sports betting — representing a 9.2% and 17.8% increase, respectively, compared to August 2023. Compared to September 2022 reported revenues, iGaming AGR was up by 29.3% and sports betting was down by 31.1%.
Total internet sports betting handle at $457.7 million was up by $239.2 million from the $218.5 million handle recorded in August 2023.
The operators reported submitting $32.6 million in taxes and payments to the State of Michigan during September, including:
- Internet gaming taxes and fees: $31.3 million
- Internet sports betting taxes and fees: $1.3 million
The three Detroit casinos reported paying the City of Detroit $7.97 million in wagering taxes and municipal services fees during August, including:
- Internet gaming taxes and fees: $7.5 million
- Internet sports betting taxes and fees: $470,071
Tribal operators reported making $4.0 million in payments to governing bodies in September.

As of September, a total of 15 commercial and tribal operators have been authorized to launch iGaming and/or internet sports betting. Currently, 14 commercial and tribal operators offer internet sports betting and 15 operators offer iGaming.
