The Louisville Zoo is pleased to offer special discounts for Grandparents’ Day on September 8 and Senior Sundays throughout September, presented by Humana.
These events are designed to celebrate and honor grandparents and seniors, providing them with unique opportunities to enjoy the Zoo with their families.
During both Grandparents’ Day and Senior Sundays, presented by Humana, guests can participate in a special scavenger hunt focused on the Zoo’s animal grandparents and their important role in conservation.
Grandparents’ Day
Celebrate Grandparents’ Day presented by Humana at the Zoo on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024. Guests can enjoy free admission for up to two grandparents with the purchase of a regular-priced child or adult general admission ticket. Louisville Zoo members can also bring up to two grandparents for free, making it a perfect day for family fun at the Zoo.
Senior Sundays in September
Seniors ages 60 and older receive free admission to the Zoo on three special Sundays this September: Sept. 15, 22 and 29.

September is National Preparedness Month
September marks National Preparedness Month, the annual campaign to remind residents that preparing for emergencies and disasters can keep them, their families, and their communities safe.
“While talking about possible emergencies or disasters isn’t easy, take time this month to sit down with family, friends and co-workers to have a conversation about being prepared and the steps to get ready and stay safe,” said Jody Meiman, Executive Director of Louisville Metro Emergency Services.
By taking simple steps, like starting a conversation, residents can build their preparedness at their own pace:
- Set aside a time when everyone is calm and relaxed.
- It may help to hold the discussions over a set time period, so decisions aren’t rushed, and people feel more comfortable talking about the topic.
- Talk about steps taken to prepare and encourage others to ask questions about preparedness actions that might work for them.
