 The work being done along this portion of KY 22 was funded through KYTC's Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) in collaboration with Vision Zero Louisville.
Louisville Metro Public Works will begin deploying new traffic signal controllers along the KY 22 (Brownsboro Road) corridor on or after November 15. This work, occurring between Springdale Road/Hurstbourne Parkway and KY 1694/New Chamberlain Lane, will require the signalized intersections to operate in an all-red flash condition for up to ten minutes per intersection. Motorists should treat this condition as an all-way stop. To avoid peak traffic times, this work is scheduled to be done after 9:30 a.m. and before 2:30 p.m.
Traffic engineers will be conducting daily field observations to identify additional adjustments to the new coordinated signal timing patterns. Thank you for your patience as they continue working on improving safety and operational efficiency along one of our fastest-growing corridors.
Jefferson County residents can now apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Fall Subsidy. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through December 15 or until designated funds have been expended. This subsidy provides a one-time benefit, paid directly to the household's fuel vendor, ranging from $34 to $274. The amount is dependent on housing category, fuel type used, and income level. Appointments are required in advance to apply. Call 502-991-8391 or click here to begin the process. Residents can also apply for MSD's EWRAP (Emergency Wastewater Rate Assistance Program) with the same appointment.
 JCPS students from Greenwood, Maupin, and Stopher Elementary Schools painted designs on three snowplows that will be featured in the city's Lots of Lights Parade at Light Up Louisville on December 2.
It's about that time of year when we start to see flurries show up in our weather forecasts. The city's Snow Team has been making preparations for about a month now to make sure they're ready for the winter season. They'll begin with about 38,000 tons of salt on hand, most of which is stored underground in the Louisville Mega Cavern. The rest, about 17,500 tons, is stored at one of four above-ground locations to be loaded onto vehicles as needed. Crews will also pretreat roads with brine (which reduces the adherence of snow and ice to pavement) when appropriate.
City snow routes typically include arterial and collector roads (like Murphy Lane, Goose Creek Road, and N. English Station Road), bus routes, and roads to major employers and emergency facilities for a total of 2,734 two-lane miles. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (about 600 lane miles) and private contractors also clear routes in the city. Click here to follow the city's progress via an interactive map.
Each week, Metro Planning and Design Services (PDS) creates a report listing all new land use applications in Jefferson County. These requests can be for changes in zoning, waivers, variances, conditional use permits, and more. There are two new proposals in this week's report that involve property in District 17.
One, pertaining to property located at 11400 Maple Brook Drive, is a waiver of LDC Chapter 10.2.4.B.3 to allow more than 50% of a perimeter landscape buffer area to be occupied by a drainage easement. The other is a minor plat to shift a property line at 12207 Westport Road. Additionally, a revised submittal regarding a proposed change in zoning at 3117 N. Winchester Acres Road is included in the report. You can see that latest site plan here. Clean Collaborative crews were in the eastern part of Jefferson County last week picking up litter along several roads in or near our district. In all, they collected 52 bags of trash, six tires, and 16 other items from the locations below. I am grateful for what these crews are doing throughout the year and appreciate the impact their work has had in our community.
