Redistricting: Metro Council District 6 New Boundaries

Please be advised that the Louisville Metro Council Districts have been adjusted. You may find that your area is no longer represented by the same councilperson. Click on the image to view maps of all 26 districts to determine who your representative is.

In order to combat urban heat island, Louisville Metro Government offers an incentive of $1 per square foot to any residential or non-residential property that has installed a certified Cool Roof within the last 3 years. 70% of our funding is allocated to high heat districts, including Council Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 12, 14, and 15. Presently, there is over $90,000 in funding remaining in these targeted districts for this fiscal year, and a small amount of funds in non-targeted districts as well. Louisville Metro encourages property owners to apply!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Schedule Information  Please read the below information regarding TARC's service schedules and closings for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday: Monday, January 17 TARC will operate on a Weekday schedule Customer service line open 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Administrative offices will be closed Union Station kiosk will be open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. TARC3 will operate a regular schedule TARC3 reservations line open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Louisville leaders hold city’s first GVI call-in meeting

Message: Violence must end. Take the help the city and its partners are offering, or face the full weight of criminal justice system

LOUISVILLE (January 12, 2022) — Leaders from throughout the Louisville community, including representatives of Metro Government, Metro Council, the criminal justice system, businesses, and the non-profit and faith communities, this evening held a Group Violence Intervention (GVI) “call-in” meeting with members of groups in the city known to be driving the increase in violent crime here.

The message was simple: The city has and is offering the tools necessary to live a better life. Accept this offer and stop the violence, or you and your group will feel the full weight of the criminal justice system.

“Tonight, you’re here because this community wants to give you a sense of hope about your future, a future without violence, and we are offering you a hand of hope, right here, right now, to do just that. To change in a life-affirming way,” said Mayor Fischer, among nearly a dozen speakers. “But we do that while we tell you that the violence that has plagued our community must stop. And it will stop. Today marks a new day for the way our city is going to respond to gun violence, and you have the great opportunity to be part of the wave of change in how we will deal with violence.” Read More

City’s Office for Aging and Disabled Citizens releases 2022 Resources Guide

Free directory of services and agencies for older adults (55+) and individuals with disabilities

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (January 11, 2022) - Today Louisville Metro Office for Aging and Disabled Citizens released the 2022 Resources Guide that includes information and resources available for seniors, people with disabilities, families and caregivers in the Louisville/Jefferson County area. 

 The free resource directory is designed to assist adults over the age of 55 and persons with disabilities, as well as their caregivers, with handling physical, psychological, and financial challenges.  While the primary focus of this guide is at-risk seniors, it also covers topics such as employment and federal and state benefits. Additional sections include nutrition, transportation, safety, and many more.  Read More

Mayor Fischer announces agreement with EMS and MetroSafe unions for new pay hike, effective immediately

Teamsters and IBEW union members will see 8% increase, effective immediately

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (December 10, 2022) — Mayor Greg Fischer, EMS and MetroSafe leadership and Teamsters Union local 783 and IBEW local 369 today announced agreements to immediately increase pay for members of those unions who work at EMS and MetroSafe. 

The side-letter agreement between Louisville Metro and the unions include an 8% pay raise for members of those unions – in addition to the 2% raise provided in July. All future annual raises guaranteed by the unions’ existing contracts will remain in force. The new pay raise is effective January 1, 2022, and those impacted should see a change on the paycheck they receive at the end of the month. 

The IBEW contract with Louisville Metro does not expire until this summer, and the Teamsters contracts run until 2023 and 2024, but Mayor Fischer said these immediate across-the-board raises were deserved and necessary to maintain quality staffing and services. The new agreements also include steps to improve accountability, similar to reforms in the recently approved Louisville Metro Police Department contracts. Read More

City announces opportunity to apply for the External Agency Fund Competitive Grants

Grants available to social services and arts and creative industry organizations

Louisville Metro Government (LMG) will begin accepting External Agency Fund applications on January 13, 2022 for Fiscal Year 2023 (July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023). These grants, funded through the city’s General Fund, are awarded to non-governmental or "external” agencies that contribute to the city's cultural, social and economic vitality.

External Agency Fund (EAF) grants are awarded annually to nonprofit organizations offering programs or services in Jefferson County that align with the Mayor's strategic goals. The competitive grants are available for Social Services programs, administered by the Office of Resilience and Community Services, and for Arts and Creative Industries programs, administered by Louisville Forward. City's Housing and Urban Development Competitive Grant Applications Being Accepted

CDBG, ESG and HOPWA grants included

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (January 10, 2022) - On January 13, 2022, Louisville Metro Government (LMG) will begin accepting applications from local non-profit organizations for programs or activities seeking funding as sub-recipients to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grants listed below for LMG fiscal year 2023 (July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023).

HUD-Funded Grants:

1. Community Development Block Grant (CDBG),
2. Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), and
3. Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA).

These grants are administered locally by the Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services (RCS). The Works Week

2021 Pop-Up Drop-Off Report

Pop-Up Drop-Offs are free recycling and large item disposal events for residents of Jefferson County. The Solid Waste Management team hosted ten Pop-Up Drop-Off events throughout the county in 2021. Data was collected from each participant including their zip code and material categories they brought. The zip code map below gives a visual overview of participation. Residents mostly dropped off electronics, bulky waste, and documents to be shredded. The top material categories varied slightly depending on the location. The graph below shows the number of vehicles that brought each material type. Material weights were measured or estimated, and the overall landfill diversion rate was 41%. The chart below shows the weights of the material categories at each event. Over the course of the year, improvements and adjustments were made from lessons learned at each event. Goals for the 2022 Pop-Up Drop-Off events include increasing the diversion rate, reaching residents in low participation areas, and maintaining effective traffic control at each location. The entire county benefits from this free service being provided at various locations all year long. These events were made possible with the support of Metro Council and the Waste Management District and the hard work and dedication of the Public Works staff. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day schedule changes

There will be no waste collection on Monday, January 17 within the Urban Services District in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday. Collection will resume Tuesday, January 18 and will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week. Residents serviced by private companies should check with those companies for the holiday schedule. The following facilities will also be closed Saturday, January 15 in observance of the holiday: All staffed recycling locations Waste Reduction Center, 636 Meriwether Avenue HAZ BIN, the hazardous waste drop-off facility, 7501 Grade Lane Sign up for schedule change notifications and holiday reminders on the Recycle Coach app

Yard Waste Temporarily Suspended

Due to staffing shortages related to COVID-19, yard waste collection in the Urban Services District has been temporarily suspended. Yard waste collection is the only service impacted by this. All other sanitation services such as garbage, recycling, and large item collection, litter abatement, homeless encampment cleaning will continue to be provided as scheduled.

The Christmas tree drop-off sites will remain open and will now also accept all yard waste that is in compliance with curbside guidelines. Containers used to bring yard waste to the drop-off sites must be taken back by residents. The Hubbards Lane site will also instantly recycle Christmas trees into mulch that will be offered back to residents for home use. Those wishing to receive mulch must bring an appropriate container in which to carry it. All lights and ornaments should be removed from trees before they are dropped off.  HOURS & LOCATIONS Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Waste Reduction Center closes at 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Sites are currently scheduled to be open for Christmas tree and yard waste drop-off through January 29. (All locations will be closed Saturday, January 15 in observance of MLK Jr. Day.) Clean Collaborative Report - Jan. 3-7

Below is the weekly update on the Clean Collaborative Crew’s actions from January 3, 2022, to January 7, 2022. I am starting a new running total for Clean Collaborative actions for 2022. Also, due to weather conditions on January 06th and 07th, the crew focused on large items visible through the snow. So there are not any specific routes, and mileage addressed on those days. The crew cleaned approximately 37.92 curb miles and collected 253 bags, 190 Tires, and 220 other items. Other items include everything from vehicle wreckage to illegally dumped bulky items. Also, from January 03 to January 09, the Louisville Downtown Partnership’s Clean Collaborative Crew collected 302 pounds of litter and debris in their downtown expanded area.

Since January 2022, the Clean Collaborative Crew has removed 253 bags of litter, 190 tires, and 220 other items from 37.92 curb miles. In addition, Louisville Downtown Partnership’s Clean Collaborative Crew has collected a total of 302 pounds from their downtown expanded area since January 2022.

Pets of the Week

Pet of the Week: Milburn Drysdale's wishes the animal shelter was more like a posh Beverly Hills hotel. He’s no divo, he just appreciates the comforts of a permanent home. Milburn is an approximately two-year-old German Shepherd mix who weighs about 75lbs. His adoption fee is waived for an approved adopter thanks to the Pay It Forward Program. The active, sweet dog loves to play and he thinks kids are awesome playmates - he just doesn’t know he’s a big dog, so we’re recommending a home with children, age 13+. Milburn can be tested with other dogs or cats by request. He’s already neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. For more info about him, email animalservicesadoption@louisvilleky.gov. First Division

Major Shannon Lauder Major Shannon Lauder joined the Louisville Metro Police Department in 2008. She served as a patrol officer in the 4th Division, primarily in the Old Louisville neighborhood. She also spent 6 years as a hostage negotiator and team leader for LMPD’s Hostage Negotiation Team. She was a detective in the Crimes Against Children Unit (CACU) investigating physical, sexual and internet crimes against children across Louisville Metro. She was then promoted to sergeant in 2015, where she served in the 6th Division before becoming a Professional Standards Unit investigator. She was promoted to lieutenant in 2018 and served as a patrol lieutenant in the 4th Division. Most recently she was assigned as the Commander of the Special Victims Unit. The SVU consists of the Sex Crimes Unit, the Domestic Violence Unit and the Crimes Against Seniors Unit. In 2020 Major Lauder was promoted to the rank of Major and serves as the Commander of the 4th Division. Major Lauder holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Political Science from the University of Kentucky and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisville. She is a graduate of the 143rd Session of the Southern Police Institute’s (SPI) Administrative Officer’s Course at the University of Louisville.

Tiffany Tatum  Tiffany Tatum is a 23 year veteran of LMPD. She began her career with the former Louisville Division of Police in 1998. She patrolled in the 1st and 4th divisions. In 2016, she was promoted to sergeant and worked in the 2nd and 4th divisions before being appointed to the Professional Standards Unit. In 2019, she was promoted to lieutenant and was appointed to Special Investigations Unit until transferring to the 1st division. She was recently promoted to Major in the 4th division.
