Changes to Email Signature Policy - Action Required
Last year IDL standardized email signatures across the agency. Most employees adopted the new signature block format. Thank you!
Since then, we've learned that not all screen readers can interpret the column-based format used in our signature blocks. A screen reader is an assistive technology used by people with vision impairments to convert images into speech or braille.
We've also learned that some employees may be using logos in their signatures that do not have ALT text. ALT text is a snippet of information that screen readers use to describe images.
In response, we updated IDL's Public Information policy and companion Email Signature Template document to make the agency's approved email signature templates more accessible.
Please update your email signature to ensure it complies with IDL policy and includes the ALT text applicable to the version of the IDL logo you use.
Our Email Signature Template includes copy-and-paste ready examples of approved email signature blocks with the ALT text descriptions already added to the logos.

All Staff Travel – Weather Contingency
Winter weather in Idaho can be unpredictable. Given that employee safety is IDL’s top priority, we will monitor weather conditions before and after the upcoming All Staff meeting to ensure participants do not have to travel in blizzard conditions.
We encourage staff to monitor the weather forecasts and make adjustment to departure times if needed,
If travel conditions deteriorate at the end of the meeting on Thursday, staff may be authorized to spend an additional night in Moscow. This decision will be made near the conclusion of the meeting.
Due to winter’s reduced daylight hours and potentially icy road conditions, use extra caution while driving. Slow down, clean your windshields/windows, and keep your gas tank and windshield fluid reservoir full. Also stock your vehicle with blankets, emergency food, water, and flashlights with fresh batteries.
Reminder to Participate in Employee Engagement Survey
Director Miller encourages all IDL employees to participate in the Idaho Employee Engagement Survey. The deadline for completing the survey in November 30.
The survey is completely confidential and does not tie responses back to individual employees, as the survey will be done through a third-party survey organization. The leadership team will only see anonymized, combined data for groups of four or more respondents.
The director hopes to see 100% participate by employees.
If you have not received your email that includes a link to the survey, please contact Michelle Herman.
ICA Approves Recreation Resolution, Calls for State Task Force
This week IDL staff attended the Idaho Cattle Association's annual convention. Approaches to addressing the ever-increasing recreational impacts on Idaho's public land were deliberated by association members.
These discussions resulted in the passage of a resolution which asks state officials to create a task force to "enact more meaningful, focused management of recreation." The resolution also directed ICA leadership to collaborate with stakeholders to find solutions to the challenges presented by increased recreational pressures on public lands.
Noise Complaints at Fire Cache
In the past, neighbors in the subdivision adjacent to the Coeur d'Alene Interagency Fire Cache complained to IDL about noise resulting from hose washing operations. In response, last summer IDL made the expensive switch from gas to electric powered pressure washers.
This change did not satisfy the neighbors, as they pivoted to complaining about noise from conversations between staff working near the property boundary. We have discussed being respectful to our neighbors with our team. We are also committed to working with our neighbors to address their concerns by taking steps to reduce the overall noise of our operations, provided those measures are cost effective and do not adversely impact the Fire Cache’s important mission.
IDL Encourages Citizens to Subscribe for Meeting Updates Using Townhall.Idaho.gov
Last week IDL launched a new webpage that makes it easy for citizens to subscribe to Land Board meeting notifications using Townhall.Idaho.gov. Links to the new webpage are available from the main Transparency navigation menu on www.idl.idaho.gov, and from the Land Board page.
The new webpage also encourages citizens to subscribe to meeting notifications from the Endowment Fund Investment Board, Idaho Board of Scaling Practices, Idaho Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and IDL.
