Welcome to the Superior Sentinel!
Hello Superior,
We have officially crossed the 50% mark! Of the 395 properties that were destroyed in the Marshall Fire, over half have been rebuilt and certificates of occupancy have been issued, allowing those families to move back home!
While it’s important to recognize and celebrate how far we’ve come, we also can’t forget about the remaining families that are still fighting their way through the recovery process. Of these almost 200 community members, around 100 have received permits and are in some phase of the construction process. (You can learn more about the Town's recovery on the Superior Recovers page.) The remaining properties are either for sale, are still working through the insurance claims process to see if they can rebuild or are otherwise just not yet ready to make a decision. The Town is continuing to reach out to these residents to understand how we can support them through this difficult process.
Whether back home or not, we should all recognize and applaud the courage, tenacity, and resilience of the Marshall Fire survivors.
Respectfully, Mayor Mark Lacis

Share your feedback on possible housing strategies. Take the surveys now through April 12!
With help from all of YOU, the Town of Superior is continuing to develop its Strategic Housing Action Plan. We appreciate those of you who have shared your thoughts and ideas so far!
Some key findings have emerged after completing a Housing Needs Assessment, collecting community feedback through surveys and conducting community engagement at recent Housing Plan Open House events.
The takeaways are that Superior needs housing that allows residents to "age in place" and makes homeownership more accessible to young families.
Town staff grouped the potential strategies into three categories to best address these needs. For each category, there is a corresponding survey. We'd love to hear your thoughts on our Draft Strategies!
The surveys close on Friday, April 12.

Boulder County Sheriff's Animal Protection Unit reminds community to leash their dogs
Leash laws are important for maintaining a safe and respectful environment for dogs and people. The laws impact individual dogs but also residents and the Town because there are many issues that can arise from dogs being unrestrained.
Here are a few to consider:
• Dogs that are off leash can engage in physical confrontations with other dogs, cats, or wildlife and can become injured.
• They are at a higher risk of contracting illnesses and disease from wildlife or other animals.
• They can run into the roadway and get struck by a vehicle or cause an accident.
• Unrestrained dogs may be approached by someone that puts them in an uncomfortable situation, causing them to bite.
Instead of having your dog off leash, try using a long line that allows your dog to play fetch while adhering to the leash law or utilizing a designated off-leash area such as the local Superior dog parks.
People using public spaces appreciate you being a responsible owner and positive ambassador for dogs!

Help prevent stormwater pollution!
What could you be sending to our streams?
Common household activities can be sources of pollutants. Rain and melting snow pick up litter, pesticides, fertilizers and other pollutants from our homes and carry them into storm drains which drain directly into local waterways.
The stormwater system differs from the wastewater system, which carries water from indoor drains in our homes, offices, and buildings, to wastewater treatment plants. You can protect waterways by:
