The Town is responsible for maintaining 38.5 miles of roadway. Typically, the Town funds maintenance on an annual basis with available funds for the year. From 2011-20, the Town spent about $2.4 million per year to maintain Town streets, but due to funding constraints, needs in other areas, and deferred maintenance projects, only $1 million per year is programmed for street improvements in 2022-26. The Town of Superior is proposing a 0.28% sales and use tax rate increase on this November’s ballot to address this need. For more, visit www.superiorstreets.com.
Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (RMMA) is currently in the process of developing a strategic business plan to guide development decisions over the next 20 years. If you would like to share feedback before the plan is finalized, please email the Jefferson County Commissioners before August 10 at commish@jeffco.us. Up Next for Superior Sustainability
The Town of Superior is developing its first Sustainability Action Plan that will serve as a guide for Town leadership, the Advisory Committee for Environmental Sustainability (ACES), residents, businesses and staff to advance sustainability in the community. The strategies of the sustainability action plan, once implemented, will improve social equity, promote good stewardship of the environment, and lead to re-localization of food, energy, goods and services in Superior.
Sustainability encompasses a broad range of topics and the Town will seek input from residents and businesses on the types of sustainability resources, programs and initiatives the Town should focus efforts on. Opportunities for engagement will happen throughout the months of August, September and October - so stay tuned!
For now, take a moment to mark your calendars for a Community Sustainability Workshop on September 16, from 6-8 p.m. at the Superior Community Center. You can also head over to the Town's sustainability webpages to see what types of sustainability resources are already available to the community!
Use water wisely during these hot summer months
Did you know the average Superior residents uses 80 gallons of water a day? Colorado households use 50 percent of their water outdoors and with these hot summer days, it seems daunting to both conserve water and keep lawns and yards healthy and happy. Using water wisely outdoors is one of the best ways to save water. Here are some tips and resources from water conservation experts:
-
Time your watering efficiently: Water during cooler hours and avoid watering on windy days.
-
Install smart sprinklers: Use efficiency technology like rotary spray nozzles and smart irrigation controllers. Check out Superior’s Water Efficiency Rebate Program to see how you can save on water-conserving product upgrades.
-
Xeriscape under-utilized areas of your yard: Visit WaterWise Yards for inspiration, tools and guidance on how to transform your yard to a water-saving, pollinator-loving oasis!
-
Check for Leaks: Check sprinkler systems and timing devices to be sure they are operating properly. Check out more information on the Resource Central’s Slow the Flow sprinkler consultations in the Community Partner News section below.

New Striping Machines Improve Air Quality
The Town is replacing the two small gas-powered machines used for both painting street markings and for staff to ride throughout our community to complete monthly water meter-reading. One of the battery-operated units has arrived and was immediately put to use, and the second is on order to complete the Town’s conversion to all electric equipment to provide these services. The new machines eliminate engine noise, vibration, and fumes and can be charged by plugging into a standard 120 V outlet. They have 8 to 12 hours of run time on a single charge, and regenerative braking that recharges batteries to extend run-time. Consistent with Town Board sustainability goals, purchase of this equipment will contribute to improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from Town operations.

Keep It Clean Partnership
When water runs off your grass the products applied to lawns often end up in nearby streams and harm aquatic life. Water collects dirt and other pollutants on its way to storm drains, which flow directly to local waterways without treatment. Here’s what you can do to protect water quality from home:
• Observe your sprinklers to see if they are spraying water on the street or sidewalk. • If needed, adjust their position and schedule to avoid overwatering. • Visit www.ResourceCentral.org/Sprinklers to schedule a sprinkler consultation. You can schedule a consultation for your home, HOA, or business.
