At the November 7 Fremont City Council Meeting, Fremont Police Chief Sean Washington was awarded with a POST Executive Certificate. POST, which is the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, sent representative Gary Clark to the meeting to present the Chief with this certificate. This recognition in law enforcement is a significant achievement, as only about 40 such certificates across the state have been awarded this year. We thank Chief Washington for his continued leadership and achieving this recognition.
In August, the City began the process of creating a Homelessness Response Plan with the goal of developing a five-year guide to help address homelessness in Fremont. The plan will include long-term best-practice recommendations to reduce homelessness, a framework to address the impacts of homelessness on the community, and a roadmap for addressing homelessness that uses coordinated and data-driven solutions to help remove barriers to assistance, expand housing opportunities, and improve the quality of life for the community.
Upon completion of the first phase of the plan, which included gathering information and data, City staff launched the community engagement phase. This second phase is currently underway, and several activities have already taken place.
Please join Fremont Police Department (FPD) and Fremont Fire Department (FFD) in a community meeting to discuss their Drone First Responders (DFR) Program. Two upcoming sessions will take place on November 15, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and November 29, 2023, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Both meetings will have the same information covered and are available in person or virtual via Zoom.
In partnership with the Urban Forestry Division, ReScape, and with generous grant funding from CalFire, we’re excited to announce a new urban forestry learning course, created to empower local residents to become stewards of our urban canopy. Running from March through April 2024, class sessions will cover fundamental topics, providing the practical tools and knowledge needed to maintain and care for urban trees. Registration is $50, and scholarships are available. Learn more about how you can enrich your understanding of urban forestry and help make Fremont a greener, healthier, and more sustainable community.
As winter approaches and temperatures begin to drop, individuals experiencing homelessness may be in greater need of warm clothing and essential items.
The City is asking the community to lend a helping hand this winter and donate items for our unhoused neighbors. The items will be distributed through City programs and services, such as CleanStart and the Safe Parking Program.
