Community Engagement for City’s Homelessness Response Plan Continues

In August, the City began the process of creating a Homelessness Response Plan with the goal of developing a five-year guide to help address homelessness in Fremont. The plan will include long-term best-practice recommendations to reduce homelessness, a framework to address the impacts of homelessness on the community, and a roadmap for addressing homelessness that uses coordinated and data-driven solutions to help remove barriers to assistance, expand housing opportunities, and improve the quality of life for the community.

Upon completion of the first phase of the plan, which included gathering information and data, City staff launched the community engagement phase. This second phase is currently underway, and several activities have already taken place. Early on, staff identified the need to double the number of community and stakeholder meetings. In October, activities commenced with the launch of a community survey and two in-person community workshops. The survey has already received more than 300 responses and will remain open until December 18. Through the end of November, the City will host approximately 25 community meetings to include elected representatives, City boards and commissions, partner agencies, care providers, businesses, faith-based leaders, housing developers, property owners, property managers, and unsheltered community members.

The plan and final recommendations will be brought to the Fremont City Council this spring.
