Stay healthy this fall and winter and limit the spread of COVID-19. As you gather with friends and family, keep COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses in mind:
- Get your flu and updated COVID-19 booster. It’s the best way to protect against becoming severely ill.
- Stay home if you are sick and get tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms.
-
Check local conditions. Take extra precautions if you’re visiting a community with higher COVID-19 community levels.
- Wearing a high-quality, well-fitted mask (N95, KN95, or KN94) over your nose and mouth is one of the best tools to protect yourself from COVID-19 and other respiratory infections like the flu.
There are a few ways to access COVID-19 testing.
Whether or not you have symptoms, if you test positive you are positive for COVID-19.
- Follow isolation instructions and learn if treatment is right for you as soon as possible (treatment in pill form must be started within 5 days of symptoms starting).
- Contact your health care provider right away – don't wait until symptoms worsen
- If you can’t reach them or if you do not have a health care provider, a free telehealth service is available for all Californians through Sesame Care: Call 833-686-5051 (6:00 am - 3:00 pm, 7 days a week) or make an appointment.
- If you have symptoms, but test negative on a rapid test, isolate and test in 48 hours or get a confirmatory PCR test.
COVID-19 treatment and medical prevention information is available through the County's website and handouts provided to community partners and testing locations.
- To improve accessibility, Alameda County prioritizes educating residents of their options if they don’t have a health care provider or they can’t reach their provider quickly, including sharing information about California’s Test-to-Treat sites and the State’s telemedicine partnership with Sesame Care.
- If residents need help understanding their options, please call the Community Support Line 510-268-2101 or send an email.
The flu vaccine and COVID-19 updated boosters can safely be given at the same time and the County strongly encourages everyone eligible to get their doses now.
