As we transition from summer into fall, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who joined us for our "Chill with a Cop" event in August. These informal interactions are exactly what community policing is all about — building relationships and trust through genuine connection.
New Overnight Parking Restrictions
Effective immediately, the City has implemented new overnight parking restrictions from 10 p.m. - 6 a.m. on Broadway Street and in all City-owned parking lots, including: Veterans Park, City Hall, the Aquatics Center and Kimberly Park. These restrictions are designed to improve safety, cleanliness and ensure fair access for all community members by preventing long-term storage of vehicles, boats, RVs and trailers.
Signs are currently being installed along Broadway Street from 2801 Broadway southward, with additional locations to follow. Please note that we will be actively enforcing these new restrictions with citations. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping American Canyon safe, clean and welcoming for everyone.
Construction Zone Safety
Our city is experiencing significant growth and improvement, which means multiple road construction projects are currently underway. We ask all drivers to exercise extra patience and caution when navigating these areas.
The Green Island Road Reconstruction & Widening Project will continue through early 2026, bringing much-needed infrastructure improvements to our industrial district. During September, expect shifted and narrowed lanes on Green Island Road between Mezzetta Court and Devlin Road. Electronic message boards are in place to provide real-time information about road conditions and project schedules.
Important reminders for all construction zones:
- Obey posted speed limits — they're reduced for everyone's safety
- Follow the directions of flaggers controlling traffic
- Allow extra time for your commute
- Maintain safe following distances
- Stay alert and avoid distractions
The safety of our construction workers and motorists depends on everyone doing their part.
Vehicle Theft Alert
We're currently investigating a recent surge in vehicle thefts targeting tools and construction equipment from vehicles parked in residential neighborhoods. These crimes of opportunity often occur when valuable items are left visible in unlocked vehicles or truck beds.
Protect yourself and your property:
- Never leave tools or equipment visible in your vehicle
- Lock all doors and roll up windows, even for quick stops
- Park in well-lit areas whenever possible
- Consider removing valuable items entirely rather than hiding them
Important tip for contractors and tradespeople: Engrave or etch identifying markings on your tools and equipment. We've successfully recovered stolen tools during recent arrests and proper identification helps us return these items to their rightful owners much more quickly.
If you notice suspicious activity around vehicles in your neighborhood, please report it immediately by calling 911.
The Wall That Heals — Volunteers Needed
American Canyon will have the honor of hosting The Wall That Heals from Oct. 16-19, 2025, at Independence Park. This traveling three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will provide our community with a powerful opportunity to honor the more than 3 million Americans who served in Vietnam and the 58,281 who made the ultimate sacrifice.
We need community volunteers to help make this meaningful event a success. Volunteer opportunities include:
- Assisting visitors at The Wall
- Directing and greeting guests
- Serving as guides at the Mobile Education Center
- Providing parking and visitor assistance
- Helping with setup and takedown
- Staffing the visitor tent
All volunteers must attend a mandatory meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15. This is a chance to be part of something truly special for our community and honor our nation's veterans.
