Good morning,
As our population ages, ensuring that older adults have access to the health care, housing, nutrition, transportation, and support services they need becomes increasingly important. Whether someone is enjoying an active retirement, managing a chronic health condition, caring for a loved one, or struggling to make ends meet on a fixed income, Pima County and our community partners offer a wide range of resources to help.
I believe growing older should not mean losing independence, dignity, or the opportunity to remain engaged in our community. For many older adults, something as simple as transportation to a doctor's appointment, help with a utility bill, or access to a nutritious meal can make an enormous difference in their quality of life.
The Pima County Health Department and our community partners provide services that help older adults stay healthy, including vaccinations, preventive health resources, chronic disease education, and connections to medical and behavioral health services. These programs are particularly important for seniors managing ongoing health conditions or facing barriers to accessing care.
Through partnerships with community organizations, older adults and their families can also find resources for fall prevention, dementia support, and caregiver education.
For older adults facing financial or physical challenges, Pima County and its partners offer resources that help them remain safe and independent. These include home-delivered meals, community meal programs, transportation to medical appointments and grocery stores, housing and utility assistance, and reduced sewer fees for eligible low-income residents.
For many seniors, remaining in their own homes is especially important. Pima County's Home Repair Program helps eligible low-income homeowners address critical repairs, including heating and cooling systems, roofing, and other health and safety concerns. These improvements help make homes safer, more comfortable, and more energy-efficient while allowing older adults to maintain their independence. Our community partners also provide resources for accessibility modifications and other assistance that can help seniors age safely in place.
The Pima Council on Aging (PCOA) is one of our most valuable community partners, helping older adults and caregivers navigate available services, understand their options, and find the support they need. From nutrition and transportation to caregiver assistance and benefits counseling, PCOA can be an excellent starting point for families unsure where to turn.
Healthy aging is about more than medical care. Social connections, lifelong learning, and physical activity are equally important.
Our Pima County Libraries and community partners provide opportunities for educational programs, technology assistance, social activities, and volunteer engagement. Library services also help older adults access information and stay connected, including residents who may have difficulty visiting a branch.
Our work through One Pima and the Prosperity Initiative reinforces the importance of addressing the underlying challenges that affect health, independence, and economic stability.
One Pima's focus on public health, housing stability, safer public spaces, and access to services has important benefits for older adults, particularly those who are vulnerable to extreme heat, housing insecurity, or social isolation.
The Prosperity Initiative addresses poverty and economic opportunity through investments and strategies involving housing, health, education, and financial stability. Although much of this work focuses on children and families, these challenges do not disappear with age. Older adults living on fixed incomes are particularly vulnerable to rising housing costs, medical expenses, and the loss of financial independence.
As we continue this work, we must recognize that supporting older adults also means supporting their families and caregivers. Helping people age safely and comfortably in their homes benefits not only individuals but our entire community.
I encourage residents to explore Pima County's Older Adult Services webpage and share it with family members, friends, and neighbors who may benefit from these resources. Sometimes, knowing where to turn for assistance is the most important first step.

Exciting News for PEEPs! TEP Becomes First Corporate Investor
On Thursday, I joined Supervisor Andrés Cano, Tucson Electric Power (TEP), and United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona to celebrate an exciting milestone for Pima County's Pima Early Education Program Scholarships (PEEPs).
TEP became the first corporate investor in Supercharging PEEPs, a community initiative designed to expand access to high-quality preschool through partnerships with local businesses and organizations.
Since launching in 2021, PEEPs has helped thousands of children access early childhood education. During the 2025–26 fiscal year, PEEPs served 1,489 children, while nearly 5,000 children benefited from PEEPs and other public preschool investments.
This new partnership is an exciting example of how public and private investments can work together to strengthen our community. From supporting our youngest learners to helping older adults remain healthy and independent, Pima County is committed to improving quality of life for residents of every generation.
