Snohomish and King County Councils Fill 1st LD Vacancies

In a joint meeting between the Snohomish and King County Councils, two members of the community were selected on July 1st to fill vacancies left in the 1st Legislative District following the resignation of Senator Guy Pulumbo. The 1st Legislative District encompasses Brier, Bothell, Northern Kirkland and most of Mountlake Terrace.
State Representative Derek Stanford was appointed to the 1st Legislative District's Senate seat. Stanford has served as State Representative since 2011 and was a member of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, Business & Financial Services Committee, and the Education Appropriations & Oversight Committee.
Bothell Deputy Mayor and environmental advocate Davina Duerr was selected by the Councils to take the State Representative seat vacated by Stanford. Duerr will work alongside Rep. Shelly Kloba to represent the 1st District in the Statehouse, and as a new member, will have the chance to select the new Speaker of the House after the resignation of House Speaker Frank Chopp.
After being sworn in to their new offices, both Stanford and Duerr will serve for the remainder of their terms through 2020. Congratulations to Senator Derek Stanford and Representative Davina Duerr!
Light Rail Communities Open Houses
The Light Rail Communities Project will be hosting two public open houses in July to seek feedback on station area concepts. The voter-approved Sound Transit 3 will bring light rail to unincorporated Snohomish County by the mid-2030’s. Two stations will be located in unincorporated areas at 164th Street and 128th Street, near their intersections with I-5. To prepare for the arrival of light rail, the County is proactively planning with the surrounding communities, cities, transit agencies and utility providers to best integrate land use and transit in these areas. Public engagement and input will be sought out early and often over the duration of the project. An online open house will be scheduled to run from July 1st – 31st, as well as:
• July 18th - Markiner High School from 5-7pm • July 25th - Oak Heights Elementary from 5-7pm.
