Bulletin 024-23
This bulletin details the process to notify OSPI of changes to school directory information contained within the Education Data System for the 2023-24 school year.
Due to a number of factors, some settings offering ALE courses choose to remain as a program within a preexisting school. Other settings, however, choose to be recognized as a standalone school and apply for a separate school code.
If you are considering making changes to your school directory status, please review OSPI’s Bulletin 024-23 and the Guide to Offering Alternative Learning Experiences, Program vs. School, page 31.
Bulletin 025-23
Many more families are continuing to participate in home-based instruction since the pandemic. As districts seek to reengage these families through new programs, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) wants to ensure districts understand state regulations for providing these alternative public education programs.
Bulletin 022-23
This bulletin details new certificate renewal requirements for all teachers, administrators, including all principals, assistant principals, program administrators, Career and Technical Education (CTE) directors, and superintendents. New requirements for equity-based school practices hours are a result of HB 1426 and WAC 181-79A-244. The new requirements are in addition to previously required hours such as the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) requirements. These hours are included within the 100 clock hours that are required every five years for certificate renewal.
OSPI's Attendance, Chronic Absenteeism, and Truancy office is launching a project called “Re-envisioning Truancy in Washington” and need your help! The project hopes to connect directly with students and families to understand what changes they believe would help our state’s truancy laws and better support them.
How can you help?
Share the invitation for families and the flyer explaining the project with youth and families who have experienced the truancy process in the last three years. Both the invitation and flyer ask youth and families to complete an interest form.
Timeline
May: The project team will begin reaching out to youth and families interested in participating in interviews.
June: Recruitment for interviews will close at the end of June, but there will be future opportunities to engage in focus groups and meaning-making sessions in the fall.
