2020-21 Assessment Reporting Requirements for Social Studies
Action Required: Due June 30, 2021
For the 2020–21 school year, school districts are required to report assessment information for the Arts, Educational Technology, Health and Physical Education, and Social Studies. For more information, visit the OSPI reporting website or the Social Studies reporting web page.

Nominate a Deserving Student for the DJ Evans Civic Ed. Award!
Do you know a student who shines as a leader in the classroom, school, or community, and has successfully completed an OSPI-Developed Civics Assessment?
OSPI is accepting applications for the Daniel J. Evans Civic Education Award for the 2020-21 school year.
Who is eligible for the Evans Award?
Any student in grades 3–12 who:
- has successfully completed an OSPI-Developed Assessment in civics, a district-supported Classroom Based Assessment, civic-related National History Day project or other project-based learning, or a civic-related inquiry project, and
- demonstrates civic leadership in their classroom, school and/or community.

This summer, America’s Promise Alliance is launching a NEW round of $300 mini-grants through the Power of Youth Challenge: Serve This Summer, made possible through support from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. The Power of Youth Challenge puts funds directly in the hands of young people age 13-19 to design and execute a service project of their choice within their own communities.

Discussing Canadian Native American Boarding School Tragedy
If you decide to discuss the tragic and disturbing discovery of a mass grave in Kamloops, B.C., this article may be helpful in providing a historical framework for government run boarding schools for Native children in both Canada and the United States.
