New Permitting System
Register for the Public Health Permit Center
The Plumbing and Gas Piping Program at Public Health—Seattle & King County is using a new permitting system called the Public Health Permit Center.
To apply for any new plumbing permits, schedule inspections, submit plans, and to manage existing permits, you need to create an account in the Public Health Permit Center.
You need to register with the same email address you used in the previous Environmental Health portal in order to access existing permits and plans.
For assistance, see step-by-step guides and videos here: How to Use the Public Health Permit Center.

New Process for Inspections: No More IVR
After today, we are no longer using the IVR system (the inspection request system) to schedule inspections. This will now happen through the Public Health Permit Center.
How to request an inspection:
Register for an account/ log into your account in the Public Health Permit Center. Select the “View My Permits and Plans” square or "My Work" tab on the black menu on the homepage (See below image).
Next select the tab for “Request Inspection.” From this tab, select the permit that you are requesting an inspection for. This will bring you to a summary page for the permit – select the “inspections” tab. On this tab, select the inspection type you want to request and fill out and submit the request form.
For step-by-step assistance, see How to Use the Public Health Permit Center.

Frequently Asked Questions
For assistance, see step-by-step guides and videos here: How to Use the Public Health Permit Center.
1. I had an account in Environmental Health Portal – do I need to make a new one?
Yes. Even if you had an account in the previous Environmental Health Portal, you still need to make an account in the Public Health Permit Center. Make sure to register with the same email address to be able to access your previous data.
2. What happened to my data from the previous system?
If you had information (existing permits, plans) in the previous permitting system, we have transferred all of that data into our new system. Note that you need to create an account with the same email address you used in the old system to access the data from the old system.
3. I'm not sure which email I used in the old system. What should I do to make sure I can access my previous data?
We emailed all the accounts we had on file in the portal on November 21 (email from kingcounty@subscriptions.kingcounty.gov titled “Alert: Environmental Health Services Portal Permitting System Transition.”) You will use the email address that you received that message at to create your new account in the Public Health Permit Center.
If you can't locate that email and are still having trouble, you can call our office for assistance.
4. Have my permit numbers changed? How can I find my permit by searching with my old permit number?
Yes, the permit numbers have changed in our new system. If you have your old permit number from the Environmental Health portal (e.g. an “SR” number), you can search for this when you are logged into the Public Health Permit Center from the “Record Search,” “My Work,” or “Dashboard,” options on the top black menu.
Updated Permitting Fees
The Plumbing & Gas Piping Program is raising fees by 3.41% starting January 1, 2026 to adjust for inflation. See the new fees at: Environmental Health Services fees.
As we described in our November newsletter, plumbing permit types and fixtures are changing in the new permitting system.
Fixtures
Fixture options are now sorted into four basic categories (listed in the order shown in the online permit application):

Permits
Additionally, permit types we offer have expanded to better cater to our diverse range of customers and project types.
Finding permits in the Public Health Permit Center
Because of the number of permit types available, the most efficient way to find a particular permit is to search for Plumbing and Gas Piping permits by category in the permit center. The below image is what you’ll see in the application section of the new system when you search by categories (see Categories on the left hand side).

How to know which permit type is right
As seen in the above image, each permit application includes a description of the type of project to which it applies
‘Decision Trees’ for each general permit category are listed below and are also linked on our website to help advise permit applicants which type of permit they need to apply for.
You may experience delays in service during this transition time. Thank you for your patience with us as we navigate this new system!
If you have any comments or questions about these or any other topics related to plumbing and gas inspections or permitting, please feel free to reach out to us at: planreviewinfo@kingcounty.gov.
