Thank You for Sharing Your Priorities!
June 2025
Dear Friend,
If you were one of the thousands who responded to our 2025 annual survey earlier this year – thank you! It is important to me to understand your needs, priorities, and concerns so that I best represent them in my work as your King County Councilmember.
We have some big picture results to share below, and I hope you will stay tuned as we’ll be sharing more details, including breakdowns for each of the ten cities and two towns of our district soon!
From thousands of responses, we learned that your funding priorities are:
It’s exciting to see that folks are feeling safer in our district, with Road & Bridge Infrastructure emerging as the top priority over Safe & Healthy Communities for the first time in years. Knowing that this is your first priority reinforces my messaging to my colleagues to vote to invest in critical infrastructure and fund the basic maintenance and repair of our approximately 1,500 miles of roads and 188 bridges in unincorporated King County.
As Chair of the Local Services and Land Use Committee, and through my work on legislation that I co-sponsored in the King County Transportation District, I’m leading efforts to do just that. Stay tuned for more to come on this front!
Safe & Healthy Communities is also one of your stated top priorities. It’s essentially tied with Road & Bridge Infrastructure in the ranks! Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community, which is why I am doing everything in my power to restore funding for full sheriff deputy coverage throughout our district. This is a critical issue for me and something I don’t take lightly. We must have the needed coverage for our residents.
In the survey you were invited to rank your top ten priorities. You were then invited to list your five desired actions per priority. Those results are below!
Your answers show the specific solutions that are most important to you, which is really helpful to me as I work to represent your voice in our funding decisions going forward.
Thank you for sharing your voice with me! The insights from this survey will guide our work as we chart a path in the months ahead. As always, if you’d like to talk about anything, please reach out by sending an email to sarah.perry@kingcounty.gov or by calling 206-477-1003.
All the best and in gratitude,
Council Briefings & Actions!
Council has been working hard this month! Here is some of the work on the issues that you’ve expressed matter most to you:
-
Supplemental Budget: In mid-June, the Council began working on our supplemental budget to fund the essential county services that we all rely on. During these discussions, I’m bringing attention to our Sheriff Office’s budget and strongly advocating for the restoration of deputy coverage to our unincorporated communities. Stay tuned for updates on this critical work!
-
Transportation Benefit District Legislation: I introduced legislation to supply critical funding for road and bridge maintenance and other transportation infrastructure. I know that road and bridge infrastructure is the top priority for D3, and it is vital to address the funding challenges our Roads Division faces in maintaining roads and bridges in our unincorporated areas with critical capital funding ending in 2029. This is no longer a “nice to have” but a “must have.”
-
Appointing Legislative District 5 Representatives: We nominated and swore in former House Representative Victoria Hunt as the new WA State Senator for the 5th Legislative District and Issaquah City Councilmember Zach Hall as WA State Representative for the 5th LD. Congratulations to these two amazing leaders on your appointments!

Congratulation to Alicia Spinner on receiving the MLK Distinguished Service Award!
I am so honored to recognize Alicia Spinner, executive director of The Circle, as our District 3 recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Medal of Distinguished Service!
Alicia is a remarkable woman who has dedicated so much of herself to our local communities. When Alicia first came to King County and settled in Issaquah, she identified a gap in resources, support, and guidance for multicultural families on the Eastside, and she chose to step in and fill it.
As executive director of The Circle, Alicia has created spaces where we can all celebrate cultural events together, and she leads The Circle in providing and connecting new King County residents with resources in their communities – working to ensure that no one has to navigate life alone.
Congratulations, Alicia, on this well-deserved recognition! You truly embody the values that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. held dear and answered Dr. King’s question: “What are you doing for others?” Thank you for your continuous efforts toward making our world a better place for all.
Thank you to King County TV for this amazing video celebrating Alicia and the work that she does in our communities!

Eat Local First has a CSA Finder that you can use to find CSAs in your community. Local Harvest has a CSA Finder as well!
On the Issues!
On the Topic of Safety & Outdoor Recreation
The King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks has launched a new park rangers program!
The program is a product of extensive public outreach on how to make our green spaces even better. Just in time for summer, these park rangers have been deployed to help meet your desire for greater staff presence at our beautiful hiking trails and parks to make them safer and more welcoming for all.
The first cohort is made up of six rangers trained in public safety and first aid who will provide information, encourage rules compliance, resolve conflicts, assist with medical emergencies, and coordinate with local law enforcement.
When you’re out and about in our D3 green spaces, you can recognize the rangers by their uniforms and the King County Parks insignia on their vehicles and mountain bikes. To learn more about this program, check out this Park Ranger Spotlight!
On the Topic of Flood Preparedness
Lower Snoqualmie River Channel Migration Zone Map: As Vice Chair of the King County Flood District, I’m pleased to share that the Flood Control District and the Department of Natural Resources and Parks are developing a channel migration zone map for the lower Snoqualmie River!
Channel migration zone maps identify areas that may experience flooding or erosion when a river gradually or suddenly changes course. This knowledge can help individuals, local cities and towns, and our county work together to reduce the impacts of flooding and erosion on our communities.
That’s why the map must be informed by not just the most recent science, but also the local knowledge of our residents in the Snoqualmie Valley. Please take the time to share your thoughts on the draft of the CMZ map here!

On the Topic of Transportation, Transit & Mobility
Rural Transportation Panel: Thank you to the Transportation Choices Coalition, Hopelink, and the Snoqualmie Valley Mobility Coalition for inviting me to be a part of the panel for your Snoqualmie Valley Rural Transportation Advocacy 101 event!
I was thrilled to join other passionate leaders to discuss how community members can advocate for the road and bridge infrastructure and public transit and mobility options that we all know are top of mind for you in the Snoqualmie Valley. Thank you to everyone who came out to participate!
During the panel, I shared how community advocates helped me prioritize the restoration of bus service in the unincorporated Cottage Lake area in my work on the Eastlink Connections legislation, showing how it is your advocacy that truly moves the needle on rural transportation in our communities!
Share your thoughts on wildfire prevention and preparedness!
To be most impactful, wildfire prevention must be tailored to each locality’s geography and history of wildfire risk. That’s why King County is developing a county-wide Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) with input from experts, local leaders, and community members.
Do you feel prepared to prevent wildfires in your community and evacuate safely in the event of an emergency? We need your input! Please consider responding to this short survey:
The survey will be open through fire season and close in late September.
