Geotechnical sampling work in SODO beginning as early as September 2, 2024

King County is planning to reduce overflows from five combined sewer outfalls where the Duwamish River meets Elliott Bay. We are evaluating new infrastructure options that control combined sewer overflows (CSOs), comply with environmental laws, and do our part to protect natural resources. This geotechnical testing will help the project team better understand underground conditions in different areas of the SODO neighborhood. Crews will visit the locations mapped below to take soil samples. Once the work is complete at each site, crews will remove equipment and restore any disturbed surfaces.

What you can expect

• Most work will occur off of the roadway. If temporary lane, shoulder, or sidewalk detours are necessary, flaggers will be on site to assist vehicles and pedestrians.
• Work will begin as early as September 2, 2024. It will take up to six weeks to complete
• Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Crews will work at one location at a time. We expect to be at each location for up to four days.
• There will be one truck and one other service vehicle on site.
• You may hear noise, including engine noise and periodic hammering, and slight vibrations during work hours.

Please watch for equipment and signs in the area, travel slowly to stay safe and follow direction from flaggers.
