The CDC has updated recommendations about dealing with respiratory illnesses (flu, COVID, and RSV) so that it’s the same guidance for all of them:
- Stay home and away from others when you are sick.
- If you at higher risk for severe illness and have symptoms of COVID-19 or flu, talk to your healthcare provider right away for testing and possible treatment. Treatment can lessen symptoms and lower the risk of severe illness if you get it within a few days of when you started to feel sick.
- Return to normal activities 24 hours after the following:
- your symptoms are getting better overall, and
- you have not had fever (and are not using a fever-reducing medication like ibuprofen or aspirin).
Once you return to your normal activities, take additional precautions for the next 5 days to prevent possibly spreading illness to others. As much as possible:
- limit close contact with others
- make sure there is good air flow indoors
- wear well-fitting masks, like N-95s or KN95s, especially when you’re around people 65 and older and those with weakened immune systems
- wash hands frequently and cover coughs and sneezes
- get tested for respiratory viruses (flu, COVID-19, RSV)

Public Health’s Kent COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic will close after Saturday, 3/30/24 due to a decrease in federal funding. Snoqualmie Valley Hospital will also close its COVID-19 drive-through vaccination site on March 30. Now is a good time to get up to date on COVID-19 vaccination while these sites are open!
It’s especially important for older adults to get the latest COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the strains of COVID people are catching now. As of 2/28/24, the CDC now recommends that people 65 and older get an additional dose of the updated (2023-24) COVID-19 vaccine.
Through the end of March, COVID-19 vaccinations are available at our Kent site:
- NO COST if you don’t have insurance or if your insurance does not fully cover the cost.
- Most insurance pays for the entire cost. If you have insurance, you are required to bring your insurance information. NOTE: Kaiser will not reimburse for vaccination at this site since it is out of network.
- FREE flu shot when you get a COVID-19 shot.
Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 am to 6:00 pm (closed 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm for lunch).
Park and Vax: If you need to be vaccinated in your car, call 206-477-6950 to schedule a Park and Vax appointment.
Address: Kent Public Health Center, 25742 104th Ave SE, Kent, WA 98030
Drops-ins are welcome. However, please make an appointment if possible:
- Online: kingcounty.gov/kentvaccine. Registration in Chinese, English, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Vietnamese and several other languages.
- By phone: Call 206-477-6950 and choose option #5. You can ask for your language if you need an interpreter.
How to get COVID-19 vaccination at other locations and after March
You can get COVID-19 vaccinations and other vaccinations at community health centers, most pharmacies, and other healthcare providers. Find a vaccination location at vaccines.gov. These locations will continue after the end of March.
If you are looking for vaccination for children under 3 years, contact your child’s pediatrician or a Childhood Vaccine Program (CVP) provider. Find a CVP provider on this map.
Public Health offers in-home COVID-19 vaccination through at least June of this year at no cost. The program is for anyone who has difficulty leaving home due to a disability, health condition, injury, etc. Call our In-Home COVID-19 Vaccine Program at 206-848-0243 or email vaccineinfo@kingcounty.gov

If your work involves demographic data collection, analysis or reporting, we have a new resource for you: Public Health – Seattle and King County’s Demographic Data Toolkit.
The goal of the toolkit is to offer evidence-based, locally appropriate options and resources for your work with demographic data. In the toolkit, you’ll find:
- Questions and answer categories about race, ethnicity, primary language, sexual orientation and gender identity, disability, and homelessness that you can use to collect data.
- Best practices for demographic data analysis, including working with data where multiple categories are selected, resolving conflicting sources of data, and more.
- Best practices for demographic data reporting, including labeling of charts and graphs.
Please use this toolkit often, and feel free to share it widely!
The Demographic Data Toolkit was made possible by the CDC’s National Initiative to Address COVID-19 Health Disparities. Representatives from multiple teams across PHSKC contributed their expertise to its development. For more information about the toolkit, please contact Francesca Holme, Policy Project Manager: fholme@kingcounty.gov.
