Starting Off the Year Strong!
February 2023
Dear Friend,
February was filled to the brim with community meetings, celebrations and lots of hard work! I toured three critical remaining projects of the 42-mile contiguous EasTrail system, witnessed the Topping Out ceremony for the Redmond Senior and Community Center building, and participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the gorgeous new Snoqualmie Indian Tribe Child Development Center! There are some outstanding projects coming to fruition - hope you will join me in taking some time out of your week to check these out!
As always, please reach out for a cup of coffee in person, by Teams/Zoom, or by phone or email if you’d like to connect! Conversations with you are what help me learn about what is most important to our communities and our team welcomes the opportunity to meet.
All the best,

Celebrating Black History Month!
February is Black History Month, a time for reflection and honoring Black Americans' experiences and rich contributions to the United States and to King County and to continually work toward equity, access and opportunity for all.
In District 3, we recommend checking out and supporting the Black Farmers Collective, a local group with a 4-acre teaching farm. Their mission is to build a Black-led food system by developing a cooperative network of food system actors, acquiring and stewarding land, facilitating food system education, and creating space for Black liberation in healing and joy!

It was wonderful to hear from our Snoqualmie residents at our first Town Hall of the year at the Snoqualmie Valley YMCA where our guest speakers joined us to talk about behavioral health, economic vitality, and environment and farm preservation with some amazing folks from the community. You can watch a recap of that Town Hall here!

We had an inspirational visit to the Crisis Connections facility. If you’ve ever called a crisis hotline for behavioral health or substance use support in King County, you have likely spoken with one of the exemplary volunteer or staff callers from Crisis Connections.
They began in 1964 and now offer a 24-Hour Crisis Line, King County 211 information line, Teen Link, WA Recovery Help Line and WA Warm Line to Washington State residents. Through 400 trained volunteers and experienced staff, they provide support, resources and certified training for King County and other communities statewide. With all of their resources — and amidst the pandemic — Crisis Connections has seen a 135% increase in call volume since 2019.
