Welcome to the second issue of Prenatal - 5: Grow & Thrive - HCA’s new monthly newsletter about our behavioral health work in the early years of life.
Over the past few years, our team has maintained a growing email list of key partners, whom we updated regularly regarding our work. After several requests to share that information with others, we started sending updates through this newsletter, which is open to all. If you missed the first issue of our newsletter in May, you can read it online here.
With that, we welcome you to keep reading to find out more of what’s happening in the P-5 behavioral health world.
The Prenatal – 5: Grow & Thrive is a spin-off newsletter of HCA’s Prenatal – 25: Thrive newsletter, which focuses on behavioral health for the entire age span of pregnancy to early adulthood. If you missed it, check out Volume 1 of the P-25 Thrive newsletter, released earlier in May.

 IECMH statewide tour
The Health Care Authority IECMH (Infant-early childhood mental health) team is coming to see you! This summer, we will be visiting each region of the state, hosting listening sessions to hear from mental health providers about their experience serving families of young children and community networking events open to all local organizations. You can visit our IECMH Statewide tour webpage to mark your calendar, register to attend, and spread the word with our marketing materials. Please note that registration is now required at least one week (5 business days) in advance to receive lunch at the listening session.
MHAYC community presentation slides
In May, the HCA IECMH team hosted a community presentation about the past years of implementation of MHAYC. The presentations outlined the shared progress, lessons learned, and details on what is coming up next. Slides from the presentation are now available.
Flyers on emotional health for babies and toddlers
If you missed the announcement in our newsletter last month, check out this set of flyers about the basics of emotional health for babies and toddlers, and how we all can play a role in supporting families of young children. The flyers are designed for either print or digital dissemination, with customized content for different audiences, including behavioral health, child welfare, early learning, and health care providers. The flyers are now available to download from our IECMH webpage under Other IECMH Resources.
B-5 at BHAs presentation slides available
In June, the HCA IECMH team presented at the Washington Behavioral Health conference about providing services to children birth through age five at behavioral health agencies. The presentation covered infant-early childhood mental health best practices and opportunities for behavioral health agencies. Have you heard about the incredible work of the Parent Child Assistance Program (PCAP)? PCAP is an award-winning, evidence‐informed home visitation case‐management model for pregnant and parenting women experiencing substance use disorders. PCAP’s goals are to help mothers build healthy families and prevent future births of children exposed prenatally to alcohol and drugs. PCAP has been working with families in Washington for over thirty years, and currently has 15 sites serving 20 counties.
“Before PCAP I never thought about goals. They showed me the right direction. They showed me that I am responsible. That no matter who I am or what I do, I am somebody. It is never too late.” - PCAP Client
