Coming up next month: public comment period for the MTP waiver renewal

From Thursday, May 12 to Monday, June 13, 2022, the Health Care Authority (HCA) will hold a public comment period for the state’s Section 1115 Medicaid demonstration waiver renewal. Washington State’s waiver is called the Medicaid Transformation Project (MTP).

We will use feedback from the public comment period to refine the renewal application, which we’ll be submitting to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) this summer.

Note: in a recent announcement, we said public comment would begin on April 18. However, HCA decided to push back the public comment period so we can add additional detail to the draft application. This will more fully inform the public, stakeholders, and others of the policies and programs to be proposed in our final application to CMS.

How do I share feedback with HCA?

During the public comment period, May 12-June 13, you can provide your feedback:

As part of our application process, we’ve released some new materials, which explain what programs will continue, expand, or begin under the renewal.

The snapshot provides a quick summary of the renewal programs.

Note: we’ll be updating the MTP renewal page in mid-May (just before the public comment period opens). This page will include links to the ways you can share feedback, a draft of the MTP waiver renewal application and summary, and more.

What’s MTP?

MTP allows our state to create and continue to develop projects, activities, and services that improve Washington’s health care system using federal Medicaid funding. All work under MTP benefits those enrolled in Apple Health (Medicaid).

Washington State is currently in the last year of the current MTP waiver, which ends December 31, 2022. If approved, the MTP renewal will begin January 1, 2023, and end December 31, 2027.
