New materials available for Washington’s MTP waiver renewal

The Health Care Authority (HCA) and our partners continue to work on the renewal application for Washington State’s Section 1115 Medicaid demonstration waiver, called the Medicaid Transformation Project (MTP). HCA will submit the MTP renewal package to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services by July 15, 2022.

As part of our application process, we’ve released some new materials, which explain what programs will continue, change, or begin under the renewal:

  • The about the MTP renewal provides in-depth detail on each renewal program. In addition, this document shares general information about Medicaid (called Apple Health in Washington) and Section 1115 Medicaid demonstration waivers.
  • The snapshot provides a quick summary of the renewal programs.
  • The evolution of Initiative 1 shares what HCA, Accountable Communities of Health, and other partners will focus on in the renewal.

What’s next?

Beginning April 18, HCA will offer a public comment period. During this period, there will be opportunities for people to share their feedback. We’ll be offering virtual forums (webinars), posting an online survey, and sharing email and mailing addresses. We’ll be sending out another announcement soon with more information.

Below is a timeline of the MTP renewal application process:

What’s MTP?

MTP allows our state to create and continue to develop projects, activities, and services that improve Washington’s health care system using federal Medicaid funding. All work under MTP benefits those enrolled in Apple Health (Medicaid).

Washington State is currently in the last year of the current MTP waiver, which ends December 31, 2022. If approved, the MTP renewal will begin January 1, 2023, and end December 31, 2027.
