National Prevention Week logo

National Prevention Week, May 10-16

National Prevention Week is an annual health observance dedicated to increasing public awareness of, and action around, mental health and/or substance use disorders. Community resources are available through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

National Prevention Week activities may look different this year due to the "Stay Home, Stay Healthy" orders. One idea to serve your community while practicing social distancing is through public awareness and mass media strategies. Check out The Athena Forum communication strategies page for guidelines and information on state- and nation-wide campaigns.

Washington State launches Spread the Facts public awareness campaign

Washington State Department of Health, Health Care Authority, Department of Social and Health Services and partner agencies recently launched a statewide public awareness campaign to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

The Spread the Facts campaign urges people in Washington to stay home, stay healthy and stay informed to help themselves, their families and their communities slow the spread of COVID-19.

The goal of the campaign is to reinforce the importance of staying home while also providing resources for staying connected with loved ones and managing the stress and anxiety that many Washingtonians are experiencing.

All messages point people to Washington State’s COVID-19 website coronavirus.wa.gov for the latest information and resources related to COVID-19. People can also find easy-to-share infographicsvideos and more. Many materials are available in multiple languages.

Funding available to help provide COVID-19 information to hard-to-reach communities

In an effort to make sure all Washingtonians have the information they need to stay healthy, the state is funding a community-based outreach campaign.

Community-rooted organizations will provide emergency language and outreach services to groups disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic but less likely to be receiving timely information through government agencies and traditional news media.

Interested organizations and businesses must submit information sheets for consideration by April 26 or May 3. More information can be found online

Questions? Contact DOH-CETF@doh.wa.gov.

Washington health workforce survey

The Washington Health Workforce Sentinel Network gathers information regularly from the state’s healthcare sector.

State and national planners have many questions about the best way to respond to the COVID-19 emergency.

Please take approximately 5 minutes to answer COVID-19 related questions and help planners understand how your organization has responded to this emergency.
