Introducing the SEBB Update

The School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Program’s first annual open enrollment is quickly approaching. Over the next few months, we want to make sure you’re getting all the information you need to prepare your organization for the transition to SEBB benefits in 2020. These SEBB Update emails will come to your inbox every other week, and contain a digest of hot topics, key dates and activities, and quick links to our online resources.

Register for SEBB Program Benefits Administrator training

This essential two-day, in-person training class provides benefits administrators with a working knowledge of SEBB Program eligibility, enrollment, benefits administration, appeals, how to coordinate with the Health Care Authority (HCA) for continuation coverage options like COBRA, and how to use the online enrollment system, SEBB My Account. You only need to attend one two-day training class, either in August or September — but we highly encourage you to send at least one person to an August training if at all possible. At least one training is available within each of the nine educational service district (ESD) regions across the state. Register for training

SEBB Program monthly billing cycle

A frequent question in recent weeks concerns the billing cycle HCA will use for SEBB Program payments. Generally, invoices from HCA (which include both the employer and employee contributions) will be available in SEBB My Account on the 16th of each month before the month of coverage, and payment is due by the 5th of the month after the month of coverage. The first invoice from the SEBB Program will be available in SEBB My Account on December 16, 2019 with payment due by February 5, 2020. This billing cycle will repeat monthly throughout the year. Here are the first few dates of the billing cycle.

Each cycle, SEBB organizations have flexibility during the approximately 50-day period between receipt of the initial invoice and the payment due date to identify and collect funds to make timely payments to HCA.
