New Pathways to Licensure: Board Streamlines Rules Effective Dec. 31, 2025
The Board of Physical Therapy updated several rules in WAC 246‑915 to comply with RCW 18.130.077. The changes reduce licensure barriers, align rules with state laws, and streamline the licensure process for endorsed and foreign‑educated applicants. All changes take effect Dec. 31, 2025.

Supporting Provider Well‑Being: Introducing the Healthy Practice Resource Tool
The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy’s (FSBPT) Continuing Competence Committee has developed a new self‑evaluation tool to support provider well‑being. This tool is called the Healthy Practice Resource. Healthy practice includes personal well‑being, professional well‑being and a healthy practice environment. The Healthy Practice Resource is an online, self‑guided tool designed to help providers assess these areas.

FSBPT to Implement Updated Coursework Tool for International PT Applicants in 2027
The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) is updating a key regulatory tool, Coursework Tool 7 (CWT7), which is used to evaluate internationally educated applicants.
Coursework Tool 7 is a standardized framework used to compare an internationally educated applicant’s academic and clinical education with CAPTE‑accredited U.S. programs. The tool helps determine whether an applicant’s education is substantially equivalent to U.S. standards, which is required for licensure.

DOH Launches Provider Demographic Data Collection
Beginning Jan. 1, 2025, the Department of Health began collecting demographic data from all health care providers. Applicants must provide race, ethnicity, gender, languages spoken, provider specialty, current practice status, and practice locations when applying for or renewing a license. DOH will use this information only in aggregate form, and individual data will not be publicly identifiable.

Protecting Licensed Professionals: Ongoing Scams Targeting Health Providers
Washington State’s Department of Health continues to receive reports of scams targeting licensed health care providers. Scammers often pose as Department staff, using real employee names and email addresses that closely resemble official DOH addresses.
Messages may request payment, personal information, or documents related to licensing issues, investigations, or disciplinary action. Some providers report receiving phone calls or letters that also appear to come from the Department.
Do not respond to suspicious messages or click on links or attachments. Verify communications by contacting the Office of Health Professions at (360) 236‑4700 or emailing physical.therapy@doh.wa.gov.
