In a recent communication, the Office of Infectious Disease (OID) at DOH thanked Washington State pharmacists for the great work in helping community members utilize the 2019 Standing Order to Dispense Naloxone (Spanish). With increased access to naloxone, pharmacists, doctors, and citizens are preventing opioid overdoses in our state.
OID specifically listed the two most common FAQs on how the order should be applied:
-
Does the customer need to present a reason for needing a naloxone kit (e.g., a current prescription for opioid medication or demonstrating a history of opioid use)? NO. Customers never need to present a reason for needing naloxone.
-
What physician’s information do I use when filling a naloxone prescription for a customer who uses the Statewide Standing Order? The order was signed by our State Health Officer. Use the following information to fill the prescription:
Dr. Scott Lindquist NPI # 1780611871 Washington State Department of Health Town Center 1, 101 Israel Rd SE Tumwater, WA 98501
You can find more information about naloxone use and dispensing at DOH Naloxone Instructions Website or check out the FAQs in English and Spanish!
