Since the inception of Washington State's Statewide Standing Order to Dispense Naloxone, in September 2019, Washington pharmacists have done a wonderful job in helping community members use the order to increase naloxone access across the state! We greatly appreciate the work you perform in helping us to address opioid overdose in our state.
The Department of Health receives questions on how the order should be applied. Below are the most common questions we receive:
Does the customer need to present a reason for needing a naloxone kit (e.g., a current prescription for opioid medication or demonstrating a history of opioid use)? NO. Customers never need to present a reason for needing naloxone.
What physician’s information do I use when filling a naloxone prescription for a customer who uses the Statewide Standing Order? The order was signed by our State Health Officer, Dr. Scott Lindquist. Use the following information to fill the prescription:
Dr. Scott Lindquist
