Update from Department of Health (DOH) A DOH report that looks at rates of COVID-19 illness and death by race, ethnicity and language spoken can be found here. Newest numbers: The Department of Health (DOH) reported a total of 340,371 confirmed cases as of 11:59 p.m. on March 29th. There have been 5,237 COVID-19 deaths in Washington. For the most recent tally of cases by county, demographics, and more, visit the Department of Health's dashboard and the state’s Road to Recovery Metrics dashboard.
Vaccine Status This week’s allocation for vaccines has been delayed, causing less appointments from providers. Shipments are expected to resume later today.
As of today, we are in vaccine phase 1B Tier 3 & 4. This means people 16 years or older with 2 or more comorbidities or underlying conditions, all people 60 years and older and more are eligible for a vaccine. For a complete list of vaccine phase information, click here.
As of March 31, 2021, the Phase Finder tool will no longer be a necessary step in obtaining a vaccine. You still need to be eligible to schedule your appointment. To see if you qualify, click here. If you need help finding a place to get your COVID-19 vaccine, the state’s Vaccine Locator website is a great resource. Otherwise, visit the provider website for information on how to schedule.
Feature Story - John John knew the first day he started volunteering at a vaccination location as an usher back in early January that he was doing the right thing. He wanted to play a part in getting as many vaccinated on the Island as soon as possible.
He got involved with volunteering by putting out a Facebook post, which led to the local Elk’s Club, which in turn directed him to Island County’s Volunteer coordinator.
He is fully vaccinated, even researched the science behind the vaccine, and ultimately felt it would protect him from the virus or at least mitigate the symptoms.
He says, “It is sometimes overwhelming and still gives me goose bumps, and yes even tears me up sometimes to see so many happy people leave after receiving their vaccination. I wish everyone could see and feel what I see and feel every day I am there.”
John knows, if he could start seeing his family and friends sooner, so could the rest of Island County.
Thank You Island County Public Health would like to thank our community partners, volunteers, providers, vaccination teams, and people assisting the community with information and obtaining appointments. Please remember everyone is doing their best, please continue to be patient through this process.
