Who Celebrate

This Festival of Lights is an 8-day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple, and the miracle of a small quantity of oil that lit the Temple's menorah for 8 days. #OurFCPs

Dear Willow Springs families,

This is our last week of school before Winter Break. Winter Break will last a full two weeks! There is still much to learn and do in these two weeks and good school attendance supports student learning and success in school.

The week will be a Spirit Week with a different theme for each day. In addition, class parties will take place this week.

Thank you for your support and partnership every day! Together, we make Willow Springs a wonderful place to learn and grow for all families.

Sincerely,

Dylan Taylor, Principal

Laura Tapper, Assistant Principal

Peter Wolf, Assistant Principal

Reporting Student Absences

We are committed to partnering with families to promote positive attendance habits. Any day that your child is unable to attend school, parents should report the absence. By reporting absences, families are partnering with our staff so that everyone can make sure students are supported and have access to resources.

Full-day absences can be reported in SIS ParentVUE. Parents can also report absences by calling our school attendance line at 703-679-6066 or by updating PickUp Patrol. School staff will call parents if students are absent, and our school has not been notified in advance.

Parents can monitor their child’s attendance records in SIS ParentVUE.

When Your Child Is Sick

It is also important to keep your child home when they are sick. The Can My Child Go to School? webpage provides helpful recommendations on when to keep your child home.

For instance, as long as they are feeling like they can participate in school activities, a child should attend school if they have cold symptoms. However, if they have severe, uncontrolled, or rapid coughing; wheezing; or difficulty breathing, definitely keep them home and contact your health care provider.

3 Hour Early Release Wednesday Coming Soon on December 17th. Students will be dismissed at 1:00 PM.

3 Hour Early Release on Wednesday

Wednesday, December 17th will be the next 3 Hour Early Release Wednesday and students will be dismissed at 1:00 PM. Students staying after the 1:00 PM dismissal time will be dismissed at 4:00 PM.

Parents, please make sure your child's transportation plans are updated in PickUp Patrol.

Window for Full-Time AAP Referrals Closes on December 15

Parents and guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) services must submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Ashley Raymond, our WSES AART at alraymond@fcps.edu no later than December 15, 2025.

Each year, families can submit a referral for full-time AAP services any time from the first day of school through December 15. No late referrals for full-time AAP services will be accepted.

Once a referral is received, our school will compile information related to the student. Then, a committee of six trained professionals from across the county will review materials to determine eligibility for full-time AAP services.

⛄ Winter Resources for Families

A list of resources has been compiled for students and families in case they or someone they know needs assistance while schools are closed for winter break. Please visit FCPS’ winter resources page for information on academic support, mental health support, and county resources related to food, clothing, housing, and other needs.

Even If School Is Closed, Learning

Can Continue!

We encourage students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during the upcoming winter break and on snow days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play at home.

We are halfway through Benchmark  Unit 3 in Language Arts! Students have explored how the government works, why it's important, and how laws change.

📚 Halfway Through Learning about Government and Citizenship in Language Arts 📚

We are halfway through Benchmark Unit 3 in Language Arts! Students have explored how the government works, why it's important, and how laws change.

Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:

  • Question: What’s one rule at home or school you wish you could change and why?
  • Activity: Play a short game (like musical chairs or Simon Says) but change one rule. Discuss how rules help things run smoothly.

At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website

Save the Date: Fairfax High School Cultural Celebration

Fairfax High School invites you to save the date for their Cultural Celebration on the evening of Thursday, March 26, 2026

It is a wonderful time where our Fairfax community comes together to celebrate the diversity and talents of our student body. We will have food from our cultural clubs and various performances highlighting different cultures. Many siblings from the FHS feeder schools are in the show every year. It’s a fun time for the whole family!

Please save the date on your calendars! More information will be shared as the date of the event nears.
