Happy Bodhi Day
Monday, December 8th is Bodhi Day. This is a Buddhist holiday that recognizes the day that Buddha achieved enlightenment through meditation under the Bodhi tree. #OurFCPS
Dear Willow Springs families,
We hope all of you have been keeping safe and warm during this sudden blast of winter-like weather. Everyone seemed very excited to see the snow.
We only have two weeks of school left before Winter Break. Winter Break will last a full two weeks! There is still much to learn and do in these two weeks and good school attendance supports student learning and success in school.
Next week will be a Spirit Week with a different theme for each day. In addition, class parties will take place next week.
Thank you for your support and partnership every day! Together, we make Willow Springs a wonderful place to learn and grow for all families.
Sincerely,
Dylan Taylor, Principal
Laura Tapper, Assistant Principal
Peter Wolf, Assistant Principal
🙋♂️ Attendance Is Important
Every Day!
Every year, absences increase in the weeks before and after winter break. Give your child the gift of education and help build a habit of attendance. Students perform better when they are in school on a consistent basis. Visit the FCPS website for more attendance resources.
December PTA Meeting Slides
We held our December PTA Meeting last Wednesday and we had a good turnout! Participants got to hear about the most recent school renovation plans and timeline and about other school-wide events. If you weren't able to make it to the virtual meeting, but you do want to know more about what is happening at school, please reference the slide deck from the meeting linked HERE.
Window for Full-Time AAP Referrals Closes on December 15
Parents and guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) services must submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Ashley Raymond, our WSES AART at alraymond@fcps.edu no later than December 15, 2025.
Each year, families can submit a referral for full-time AAP services any time from the first day of school through December 15. No late referrals for full-time AAP services will be accepted.
Once a referral is received, our school will compile information related to the student. Then, a committee of six trained professionals from across the county will review materials to determine eligibility for full-time AAP services.

📚 Halfway Through Learning about Government and Citizenship in Language Arts 📚
We are halfway through Benchmark Unit 3 in Language Arts! Students have explored how the government works, why it's important, and how laws change.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: What’s one rule at home or school you wish you could change and why?
- Activity: Play a short game (like musical chairs or Simon Says) but change one rule. Discuss how rules help things run smoothly.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.

Complete Your Federal Impact Aid Survey✅
FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in.
Please complete your survey as soon as possible.
We provided paper copies to families who have had not completed the survey in ParentVUE as of November 12.
Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. This year, FCPS expects to receive approximately $4 million in Impact Aid funding. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For more information, visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.
Need to Register for ParentVUE?
Learn how to activate your SISParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey and have access to other helpful information about your child.
Technical support for using ParentVUE or submitting the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. Select SISParent in the Application dropdown menu and type “Federal Impact Aid Survey” in the Issue Description section. You may also call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).
Social and Emotional Learning Screener: Parent Reports
Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener last month, providing information on skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
Individual student SEL Screener results will be available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE the week of November 17. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be shared by our school.
For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or reach out to school staff.
