Dear Shrevewood Families,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at our International Night this year! Thank you for joining us as we celebrated the incredible diversity within our school community. Our classrooms truly came alive with the vibrant colors, sounds, and traditions of countries from around the world. It was inspiring to witness students and teachers alike pour their hearts into researching and presenting on so many different backgrounds and cultures. The thoughtful presentations and engaging displays were a testament to their hard work and dedication. We are so proud of everyone's efforts in making this year's International Night a truly memorable and educational experience for all.
As our 2024-2025 school year draws to a close next week, we want to extend our deepest gratitude for your incredible partnership. This year has been a testament to what we can achieve together, and your dedication, support, and active involvement have been absolutely essential to our students' success and the vibrant spirit of our school. From volunteering in classrooms to attending concerts and events and supporting learning at home, your commitment has made a profound difference. Thank you for entrusting us with your children and for being such an integral part of our school family. We wish you all a safe, restful, and joyful summer break. We can't wait to welcome your children back in August, ready for another year of growth and exciting new adventures!
Sincerely,
Katie Vandawalker, Principal
Dan Reichard, Assistant Principal
It is the time of year that we are focused on endings and beginnings. We are ending the school year and looking forward to the beginning of summer. Some endings are much harder for us, especially when they involve saying goodbye to some of our wonderful Shrevewood staff members.
Congratulations to Annette Dollar who is retiring at the end of this school year. She has given many years of service to FCPS and Shrevewood, and we are thankful for her service to our school and community!
It is with mixed emotions that we bid a fond farewell to the following Shrevewood staff members:
- Lauren Ahn, Art Teacher
- Annette Dollar, Enhanced Autism Classroom Teacher
- Sahar Farahat, Kindergarten Instructional Assistant
- Elia Featherston, Third Grade Teacher
- Shawn Lloyd, Librarian
- Hannah McElhany, PE Teacher
- Jessica Pittman, Second Grade Teacher
- Carrie Zvijac, ESOL Teacher
These staff members impacted our community in many ways, and we wish them all the very best in their future endeavors.
As the summer approaches, we could still have staffing changes. We will continue to update the community with any changes. We are already almost fully staffed for the next school year. We will introduce our new staff members to you all later this summer.

The Technology Team will be collecting student devices on the following dates:
-
Kindergarten through 2nd Grade: Thursday, June 5th, 1:45-3:45 p.m.
-
6th Grade: Monday, June 9th.
-
3rd through 5th Grade: Tuesday, June 10th.
Students will clean, remove any stickers, and return their laptops to the library.
Students who lost their chargers will be responsible for purchasing a replacement in MySchoolBucks.
If your child is participating in FCPS ESY, their laptops will be collected and delivered to their site location. The laptops will be waiting for them at the start of ESY. If you have any questions, please contact our Technology Support Specialist, Mary Datillo, at medatillo@fcps.edu.
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 2:00 p.m. on the last day of school, June 11. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your child.
Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school clinic or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services. A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school.
If you have any questions, please contact the school health room at 703-645-6610.
On the last day of school, Wednesday, June 11, Shrevewood students will be dismissed at 2:05 p.m.
FCPS’ Summer Meal Service Program provides breakfast and lunch free of charge to all children aged 18 and younger. Check FCPS’ Food and Nutrition Services webpage and the USDA Meals Summer Meals for Kids Site Finder in mid-June for specific dates, times, and locations.
Please note that no meals will be served on the June 19 and July 4 holidays. If you have any questions regarding the Summer 2025 meal service, please contact us at SummerMeals@fcps.edu or at 703-813-4800.
Throughout May and June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, there is a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.
How the results are delivered depends on the test. Scores will be delivered in SIS ParentVUE or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines.
Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families. Individual test websites provide report translations and help for interpreting test results. Please contact us with any testing questions or for additional information about how we use test results to support student success.

FCPS Pre-K and Early Head Start programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children with economic and educational risk factors ages 6 weeks to 4 years living in Fairfax County.
Pre-K prioritizes 4-year-old applicants but also accepts applications for children 3 years old by September 30. Early Head Start is located at three elementary schools — Clearview, Crestwood, and Dogwood — and accepts applications from expectant mothers and for children 6 weeks to 2 years old.
Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, however, space is limited and provided based on need, not “first come, first serve.” Applications are accepted online, by email, by postal mail, or in person at our office at 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
If you have a question about the application process or status, please call 703-208-7900 (English) or 703-208-7901 (Spanish).

Our goal is to partner with families to help minimize the number of days students are absent. Getting your student into the habit of daily attendance helps reduce stress and makes it easier to connect with friends and teachers. We understand that each year presents different extenuating circumstances that lead to missed days. However, we hope to increase communication in regards to absences to reduce impact on your child’s well-being. FCPS has created a Health Flyer for Parents indicating when a parent should keep their child home from school. Please review FCPS Attendance Policies and resources to encourage regular school attendance.
Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, parents/legal guardians can report up to two consecutive absences through SIS ParentVUE. Learn more about attendance reporting through ParentVUE HERE. Families can also report absences by emailing shrevewoodelem.attendance@fcps.edu or calling 703-645-6666 before 10:00 a.m. each day.
Students, families, and staff throughout FCPS and in our school community will use Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/) as our learning management system. Here is what you need to know:
You need a SIS/ParentVUE account to log in to Schoology.
